There are two additional boarding houses forUpper School students in Pimlico and CoventGarden. The Royal Ballet School operates in locationsworldwide, including different Associate centresand venues for Intensive Courses.Across our sites, there are a total of 280 employees. Thisposition moves to full time fromApril to August to support theEnd of Year Performances. Thisposition is term time only.Occasional weekend work andadditional hours may be requiredto fulfil the demands of projects. SALARY: Competitive salaryofferedSUMMARY OF THE ROLEThe Wardrobe Supervisor is responsible for managing all costume-relatedactivities for the Upper School throughout the school year, ensuring costumesare well maintained, altered, and repaired as needed. In addition, the role leadsthe planning, design, production, and delivery of costumes for the End of YearPerformances across both Upper School and White Lodge, attendingproduction meetings and fittings, liaising with other wardrobe departmentsand suppliers, and coordinating the logistics of costume management for allperformances.COSTUMESCoordination and sourcing of costumes Prepare, alter and repair costumes and tutus for Royal Ballet School eventsand performancesRe-imagine current stock to find solutions to new wardrobe needs anddemandsObtain material samples, cost and create new costumes as mutuallyagreed with the Artistic Director and ManagersCare for costumes: wash, clean, iron, store, packing appropriatelyFacilitate “get-in” and “get-out” arrangements for events including thetransporting of costumes to and from outside venuesMaintain an updated inventory of items of costume for each specificperformance.MAIN DUTIESFINANCIAL CONTROLTo assist the Artistic Director, Head of Artistic Programmes and Productionand the Upper School Artistic Manager with any Wardrobe budgetaryneeds or bidsTo manage the Wardrobe department finances, liaising with the Artisticstaff, the Artistic Operations and Production Manager and FinanceDepartment as and when required.GENERALAttend events, performances and competitions as required to coordinateand manage the wardrobe service, for example Linbury Theatre, OperaHolland Park, Royal Ballet and Opera, choreographic events, solosgraduation etc.Supervise all wardrobe needs for performances To arrange for the maintenance of the Wardrobe Department’s machineryand equipmentProvide strong, inspirational leadership to all wardrobe assistants, ensuringa motivated, supported, and high-performing team.Maintain close communication and partnership with other keydepartments.Support students, as needed, with any matters related to wardrobeCollaborate closely with other departments to deliver the End of YearPerformances and any other internal or external performances.Any other duties that may reasonably be requested by the ArtisticDirector, Head of Artistic Programmes and Production and ArtisticOperations and Production Manager, within the scope and range of thepost holder. PERSON SPECIFICATIONESSENTIAL CRITERIAExtensive experience in a ballet/dance/performing arts school/companyor theatre wardrobe department or quality fashion workshopOutstanding sewing and tailoring skillsGood interpersonal skills, especially with young peopleExcellent planning and organisational skillsAbility to work under pressure and to strict deadlinesBasic administration and IT skills using MS Office packages or a willingnessto be trained.An interest in dance or the performing arts Experience of working in School environmentEmpathy with the aims and ethos of the School.DESIRABLE CRITERIASAFEGUARDING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare ofchildren and young people and recognises that safeguarding and promotingthe welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility.
