Westminster Under School is a friendly and welcoming place to work, with a real sense of community. Staff members quickly become part of the rhythm of life, both inside and outside the classroom. Social events are regular and varied, with plenty of opportunity to socialise outside working hours. Staff are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending a concert or a sports fixture.
It is a particularly exciting and significant time to be joining Westminster. As part of Westminster Under School and Westminster School’s move to become fully co-educational, girls will be joining the Under School for the first time in 2026, at the 7+ and 11+ entry points, and a brand new pre-prep will open for boys and girls at the 4+ entry point. In 2028, girls will be joining at 13+ at Westminster School.
The School’s new Pre-Prep Department will cultivate a love of learning, both through formal and child-initiated activities, and there will be plenty of time for opportunities to explore the outdoors, both on the School’s new play balcony and on the playing fields at Vincent Square. High-quality adult interactions will prepare reception children for a stimulating and world-class education in Year 1 and beyond.
The role
The Under School is seeking a bright, caring and skilled Reception Class Teacher, to join the new Pre-Prep Department from September 2026. The Reception Class Teacher will benefit from teaching a small class of approximately 16 pupils, with a full-time teaching assistant. They will work closely with the Head of Pre-Prep, who will be their partner teacher. Aside from teaching, they will contribute towards the preparation of programmes of work, half- termly planning and termly planning overviews, and will be expected to take part in and assist with open days and 4+ assessment days.
The successful applicant will have Early Years Teacher Status (or equivalent), Qualified Teacher Status and a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent). Children work significantly beyond their chronological age at Westminster Under School, therefore experience of teaching Year 1 and 2 would be advantageous, as would experience of teaching in a Prep school environment. This role is suited to someone who is confident and self-directed, and who has an enthusiasm for Early Years teaching. The ideal applicant will possess excellent administrative and communication skills and will be extremely organised. Advanced knowledge of the EYFS statutory framework, safeguarding within schools, and pastoral care and wellbeing are integral to this role.
The successful candidate will be invited into school in the Summer term (2026) for a few transition events.
