The Abingdon Foundation is looking to appoint an exceptional and experienced Payroll Manager to join our friendly HR team. The Foundation comprises two schools: Abingdon School and Abingdon Preparatory School, as well as Abingdon School Enterprises.
This position is a key role within the HR and Finance teams reporting to the Director of HR with a dotted line to the Financial Controller. The role has the primary responsibility for preparing the annual salaries budget as well as day to day management of the school’s payroll, staff pay records, and pay and benefits matters. This will include liaising with the external payroll partners (e.g. payroll bureau and pension providers) during the month as well as managing pay and benefits related communications and administration with staff. In addition, the role will assist the Financial Controller with the analysis of the payroll costs and will be responsible for the monthly forecasting and annual budgeting.
If you are a flexible, positive and proactive team-player with excellent attention to detail, organisational and communication skills, and have the ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues, we would love to hear from you. Experience working in a payroll role where multiple pay scales and conditions of employment exist and a formal payroll qualification is essential. It would be an advantage to have had experience working in schools and of system implementation projects, but these are not essential. It is more important that you have the right skills and personal attributes for the role.
The School offers a wide range of generous benefits including up to 14.1% employer pension contribution, private healthcare insurance, free use of leisure facilities with discounted exercise classes, free lunches during term time, Christmas closure days and discounted school fees (eligibility criteria apply).
We recognise the value of a diverse and inclusive workplace and are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and job applicants. We aim to ensure that our staffing at all levels and in all roles is diverse and we welcome applications from all backgrounds and all sections of the community.
Early applications are encouraged. We may make an appointment prior to the advertised closing or interview dates. - Specific Application Requirements

To apply, please upload your CV and covering letter explaining your motivation for the role, via the application portal. Please note that due to safeguarding reasons, candidates that are invited for interview will be required to complete a standard Abingdon application form prior to interview.
