Main Duties
- To help maintain the smooth running and supervision of the Library area in accordance with the Library expectations (Appendix A) and the Aims of the Library, namely:
- To promote a love of reading;
- To promote an interest in information and encourage skills in finding and using it effectively and responsibly;
- To provide a research and study facility for students and staff;
- To support the curriculum through provision of up-to-date resources.
- To be responsible, together with other Library Assistants, for the correct filing of resources;
- To be familiar with the Library Management System (LMS) so as to undertake the majority of library transactions, i.e., loans, returns, reservations etc;
- To assist with the cataloguing and editing of resources on the LMS, as directed by the College Librarian;
- To be aware of the resources available to Library users so as to give general guidance;
- To carry out the opening and shutdown procedures for the Library;
- To assist with supervision of student helpers and activities;
- To help ensure that the Library is well-kept and tidied regularly;
- With the Librarian, to oversee receipt, storage and promotion of newspapers and periodicals;
- To liaise with other College departments over supplies and maintenance requirements for the library;
- To assist in the maintenance of the current information files;
- To complete any other reasonable tasks requested by the College Librarian;
- Have a commitment and understanding of safeguarding protocols within school setting.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications/Skills/Experience
- Interest in reading and an enthusiasm for books and sourcing information;
- Experience of working within a library environment;
- Experience of working independently using own initiative;
- Competent IT User;
- Good oral and written communication skills;
- Highly organised with the ability to keep stock neat, orderly, accessible and in good condition;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate, liaise and work in partnership with the Library staff, teaching staff, pupils and library visitors;
- Able to supervise and work co-operatively with pupils.
Desirable Qualification, Experience and Skills Requirements
- A library qualification;
- Previous experience working within a school or FE/HE environment;
- Database/Cataloguing skills;
- Experience of use of social media channels for promotion of resources.

The selection panel reserves the right to enhance any or all of the desirable criteria to attain a manageable field.
Terms and Conditions
Salary: Total annualised salary £9,329 per annum. Salary is reviewable annually. Payment is monthly in arrears and made directly to an employee’s Bank or Building Society account.
Hours: Monday to Wednesday 8:15 am to 1:15 pm, working during the College’s published term time (34 weeks per year) plus INSET days. Additionally, you will work one Saturday in every four, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. In addition, you will be required to work for one week during the school holiday period.
Holidays: Statutory holiday entitlement to be taken during College’s holiday published dates. The above salary includes an allowance for holiday.
Pension: The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4% in compliance with current legislation.

Please note whilst the Enhanced DBS check will be paid by the College if an overseas police check is required it will be at the cost of the successful applicant.
