Job Overview

The Teaching Assistant will support the class teachers in creating a positive and inclusive
learning environment, providing support to the pupils, to help them to develop academically,
socially and emotionally.

Duties and
Responsibilities:

  Work closely and build effective relationships with the teachers, children and their

families to develop a thorough understanding of the children’s needs.

  Support the children in building and maintaining positive relationships with their

peer groups.

  Support individuals and small groups in lessons to address misconceptions, support

their understanding and promote pupil progress.

  Support the teachers with note taking, observations and live marking.
  Create and adapt supportive learning materials to meet the needs of the children.
  Use a range of methods to support the children to enable them to access and engage



with whole class and small group teaching and learning.
Liaise with the class teacher and SEN department to support children with any
necessary interventions.

  Provide additional help for children who need extra support, including those with

Special Educational Needs (SEN).

  Assist the class teacher in managing the classroom environment and promoting

positive behaviour (in line with the school behaviour policy) to enable the children to
access the curriculum.
Identify and implement strategies to encourage independence across all areas of
school life.



  Support the class teachers and the children on school trips and outings.
  Attend department meetings when required.
  Fulfill a range of administrative duties associated with the post, e.g. record keeping,

preparation of resources for lessons and communication books.

  Supervise the children during lunchtimes and at playtimes.
  Encourage reading confidence through guided and one-to-one support.

  Has experience of working with children as a Teaching or Learning Support Assistant

or similar.

  Has experience of working collaboratively with teaching staff, parents and external

agencies

  Has knowledge of a range of different Special Educational Needs, such as, Autism,

Dyslexia, Developmental Language Delay, Dyscalculia, etc.

Probationary
Period

  This role is subject to a probationary period of 12 months from the start of

employment, and may be extended at the School’s discretion.

  Performance and suitability for continued employment will be reviewed throughout

the probationary period.
