Overview of the Culturally Specific Support Service

The Culturally Specific Support Service helps people from minoritized ethnic communities who are in
crisis or face additional difficulties in managing their tenancies and do not have access to stable and
sustainable accommodation in Nottingham City. Many of the people we support are living with
dependents.

We provide members of minoritized communities with culturally-specific and holistic emotional
support and help them to access services whilst empowering them to live independently by
providing the skills and support they need.

Many people we support often face cultural and practical barriers when trying to access health
services and appropriate accommodation. We advocate for and provide support for single
individuals, some with families, in and around the areas of mental health, homelessness prevention
and homelessness for communities who often find these services unreachable. The project is the
missing link between these services and those who need help in reaching their potential.

Our beneficiaries often experience discrimination from services and experience other barriers
surrounding language, culture and knowledge of the systems. The service meets the unmet needs of
people who are in crisis but do not meet the threshold of other services.
