The aim of Dyfed Drug and Alcohol Service (DDAS & Choices) is to engage drug and/or alcohol users and/or their concerned others in Dyfed’s substance use treatment system and support them when accessing it. DDAS staff will support individuals to address substance related issues, access appropriate interventions, reduce physical dependence and related health problems, reduce drug and alcohol related offending and improve physical, psychological, family and social functioning. DDAS works with substance users and their families, friends and carers in the community delivering specific services such as for those involved in the criminal justice system or Young Persons services. DDAS supports service users and their loved ones to sustain the gains they make in treatment by providing aftercare and peer support to help build social capital and prevent relapse.

DDAS is a consortium comprising three organisations, Barod, Kaleidoscope Project and G4S. DDAS is delivered throughout the geographical regions of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire. DDAS is aimed at adult drug and/or alcohol users aged 18 years of age and over, and their families, friends and carers.

DDAS services are provided in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory, and professional manner and in a way that demonstrates courtesy and respect for individuals using substances, and sensitivity to their unique personal situations and experiences.

The IPED Specialist is a newly created role within DDAS/Choices, designed to provide dedicated support for service users in an evolving landscape of Image and Performance Enhancing Drugs (IPED) use. This role will deliver specialist interventions, ensure equitable access to services, and contribute to the development of IPED approaches and treatment options across Dyfed

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide specialist IPED interventions to DDAS & Choices service users.
  • Monitor and respond to emerging trends in IPED use and treatment options.
  • Develop and implement tailored harm reduction techniques
  • Design and deliver training sessions to upskill the wider DDAS & Choices staff team.
  • Establish and coordinate IPED clinics in each County of Dyfed, ensuring consistent and equitable provision.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance service delivery.
  • Engage with educational facilities to explore research opportunities.
  • Work alongside Choices West to develop and co-deliver age appropriate educational workshops
  • Attend the quarterly harm reduction meeting.
  • Deliver high quality interventions to the users of IPED or offer consultation for allocated workers
  • Carry a small caseload of Iped service users and undertake comprehensive assessments when required.
  • Present trends & recommendations to DDAS & Choices Managers and Dyfed Commissioners through the development of a regional steering group.
  • Co-ordinate DDAS service response to emerging trends in IPED treatment options, including blood tests for hormone markers
  • Liaise with professionals to ensure the 6 pillars of health are addressed.
  • Work alongside service managers to look at trends in IPED use and health with an end of year report delivered to partners.
  • Work in partnership to involve people who use DDAS & Choices services in service delivery and harm reduction messages.
  • Any other duties requested by DDAS & Choices management team and APB Commissioning Team

Ideally all these requirements must be met by the candidate on appointment. However, in certain circumstances a candidate may be appointed who does not meet a particular requirement. This is providing that the shortfall can be made good in a reasonable time, and the candidate brings other skills, knowledge or experience which are valuable to the role and the Organisation.

Full, current driving licence and use of a vehicle which is insured for business use.

Previous experience within the field of substance use.

An understanding of current legislation and policy in relation to substance use and mental health.

GCSE English Literature or Language, grade C or above (or equivalent).

Health and Social Care Diploma Level 3 (or equivalent).

A suitable qualification in training or education.

A suitable qualification or training in IT proficiency.

Time management skills.

Literacy and numeracy skills.

Excellent IT skills: competency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva and Internet Explorer.

Ability to problem solve, work under own initiative and able to work under pressure.

Ability to work flexibly as part of a collaborative team.

Effective interpersonal and networking skills.

Good communication and presentation skills.

Ability to adapt to working with people irrespective of their role, background or experience.

Proven ability to network and build professional relationships

Knowledge of IPEDs and related harm reduction strategies.

Previous experience of working within the substance use sector or similar field.

Understanding of substance use and treatment pathways including those using Ipeds

Welsh language speaker.

Understanding/knowledge of ACEs and their impact.

Experience of a trauma-informed approach.
