West Mercia Women’s Aid Independent Domestic Violence Advisor Service works with those victim/survivors of domestic abuse who are at high risk of significant harm. IDVAs respond immediately to any and all appropriate referrals to provide information and reassurance that our service will amplify their voice in securing protective action from a range of agencies – including the Police in particular – who all have an obligation to help them be safe from harm from domestic abuse. The work is intense and very fast paced. West Mercia Women’s Aid IDVA Service receives on average 2,500 referrals of victim/survivors a year.

The position of Service Manager will shortly become vacant, and we are looking for a dynamic and experienced manager to take charge of this excellent service and continue to drive improvements in outcomes for the victim/survivors of domestic abuse. From November we will be delivering new services in the Family Courts as part of the national Family Court Pathfinder programme, so this is a really exciting time to be leading one of the best-regarded IDVA services in the country.

Main Objectives of the Post;

  • Management of the IDVA Service team ensuring all staff receive effective line management including support and supervision, mentoring and development. The IDVA Service Manager will directly line manage the IDVA Assistant Manager and Senior IDVAs ensuring that teams are managed holistically, balancing caseload capacity with employee and team wellbeing.
  • Representation of the IDVA Service at both an operational and strategic level both locally and regionally.
  • Management of relationships with Commissioners of services for those at high risk of significant harm from domestic abuse, ensuring that all contracts delivered by the WMWA IDVA Service are of high quality.
  • Effective and impactful use of data to inform decisions and to demonstrate the achievement of outcomes by the service through the production of reports and in presentations.
  • Management of all contracts issued by WMWA to other bodies for the delivery of services that impact on outcomes for clients of the IDVA Service.
  • The promotion and development of efficacious relationships with key partners.

We are looking for someone who has;

  • Extensive relevant experience of management in the public/charity sector
  • IDVA specific management/ supervisory experience
  • The ability to lead a service within an organisation that both provides essential support, and seeks to inform, challenge and change attitudes.
  • The ability to co-ordinate and direct staff to ensure optimal service delivery.
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to write reports for both internal and external audiences.
  • The ability to work co-operatively with other professionals and managers on behalf of service users and of the service
  • The ability to deliver presentations and awareness workshops internally and to external agencies
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and to be pro-active in responding to unplanned demands
  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse issues, and of the needs of women, men and children affected by it
  • Knowledge and understanding of the family Courts
  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of effective safeguarding for both children and vulnerable adults, and of child protection processes and practice
  • Working knowledge of disability, mental health and drug and alcohol issues
  • Knowledge of the legal assistance available to those seeking freedom from domestic abuse, including housing, civil law and criminal justice processes
  • Commitment to Women’s Aid values and ethos.
  • Commitment to the empowerment of women, children and high risk men affected by domestic abuse.

Full time- 37 hours

Working across West Mercia – The successful candidate will work under a hybrid model once inducted into post, having autonomy to manage their work location in conjunction with service needs.
