  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and well-sequenced music lessons to students in Key Stage 3, taking into account their individual needs, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes the enjoyment and appreciation of music for all students, regardless of their musical background or abilities.
  • Create and implement differentiated lesson plans and resources to cater to a diverse range of learners, including those with SEND.
  • Assess and monitor students' progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and guidance to support their musical development.
  • Incorporate a variety of musical genres, styles, and cultures into lessons to broaden students' musical horizons.
  • Support and collaborate with the school’s Learning Support Coordinators and other relevant staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and ensure students with SEND receive appropriate accommodations to fully engage in music education.
  • Utilise a range of adaptive teaching strategies, including innovative technologies, to meet the individual needs of students and create an accessible learning environment for all.
  • Champion the use of music as a powerful tool for promoting creativity, self-expression, communication, and well-being among students with additional needs.
  • Organise and lead music-related extracurricular activities, such as choirs, bands, or ensembles, to encourage participation and provide additional opportunities for students to develop their musical talents.
  • Actively contribute to the school's music programme by supporting performances, concerts, and events.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievements.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child's musical development and involvement.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education or equivalent.
  • A degree in Music or a related discipline, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Proven experience of teaching Music successfully at Key Stage 3 level.
  • Demonstrable experience of planning and implementing adaptive teaching strategies for students with a wide range of SEND.
  • Inclusive Practitioner: A genuine passion for and commitment to inclusive education, with the ability to make music accessible and enjoyable for all.
  • Musical Proficiency: Proficiency in playing one or more musical instruments and the ability to teach basic music theory and notation.
  • Classroom Management: Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to create a positive, safe, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students, build positive relationships, and collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external stakeholders.
  • Organisation: Strong organisational skills, including the ability to plan and manage resources effectively, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
  • Commitment to CPD: A dedication to continuous professional development, staying up-to-date with the latest research and pedagogical approaches in music education and SEND.
