About Kids

Kids is dedicated to supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), young carers, and their families. Our mission is to help create a world where all children and young people have equal access to opportunities. We do this by delivering life-changing support and empowering families to advocate for their rights.

Could You Support Families as a Befriending Sessional Worker?

We’re looking for caring and committed individuals to join our Hull Befriending Service. In this rewarding role, you’ll support families of disabled children and young people—helping to provide guidance, emotional support, and a sense of connection.

Our befriending service offers vital assistance to parent carers in Hull, providing both emotional and practical support. Our befrienders bring empathy and understanding, often from their own lived experiences as parent carers navigating the SEND journey themselves.

Key Responsibilities

Your tasks may vary depending on your strengths, interests, and experience, and may include:

1. Administrative Support

  • Updating records and managing data using internal systems
  • Sending support emails related to service delivery
  • Ensuring personal data is securely stored and handled
  • Logging and tracking service interactions (calls, voicemails, emails)

2. Direct Support

  • Offering one-to-one support to parent carers through events, calls, or emails
  • Providing emotional support and signposting to local services and groups
  • Drawing on your own experiences as a parent carer to connect and empathise

3. Training & Public Engagement

  • Supporting and attending parent support sessions and training events (e.g., coffee mornings)
  • Representing the service at community events, including school SEND coffee mornings
  • Promoting the service and offering advice, guidance, and information

Personal Qualities & Skills (Desirable but not essential)

  • Experience supporting families of disabled children and young people
  • Confidence in communicating with diverse individuals and groups
  • Comfortable using IT systems (e.g., bespoke databases, MS Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills
  • Proactive, friendly, and enthusiastic about helping others
  • Ability to travel independently to and from events

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families in Hull while developing your own skills in a flexible, supportive role.
