Associate Director, IPPR North
Job Description
IPPR North is the leading think-tank based in the North of England. Our pioneering research and ideas have shaped progressive policy making for more than two decades.
About the role
We are at a critical time for England’s regions. In the face of the rise of populism, it’s clear no people or places can be left behind. Whether it’s by resetting the economic status quo or rewiring democracy, our mission is increasingly urgent, and you can help shape it.
We are looking for a fixed-term Associate Director to join IPPR North and take a leading role in developing bold ideas for the future of our regions.
This is an exciting and influential role at the heart of British politics - combining leadership, analysis, ideas, policy, communications, strategy and politics. IPPR North helped provide the blueprint for devolved power and economic leadership; now it’s time to make sure it works for everyone.
About you
We’re looking for a dynamic leader who’s curious, analytical, and brimming with initiative. You’ll have a talent for inspiring others, solving problems, and thinking creatively. Whether you’re already in a leadership role and seeking a fresh challenge, or considering joining us on secondment, this could be the perfect opportunity.
You’ll see the bigger picture in policy and politics while guiding a talented team of researchers and communicators to achieve ambitious goals. You’ll be confident managing people and juggling multiple projects, delivering high-quality, impactful work at pace. Collaboration will be second nature to you.
You’ll also know how to turn complex research into clear, compelling insights for political audiences - and communicate those ideas effectively through the media.
If you thrive in a fast-moving environment and want to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.
Why join us?
We value the benefits of in-person collaboration and ask our team to spend at least 40 per cent of their working hours in our Manchester office. Beyond that, we're flexible! As part of our commitment to flexible working, we welcome applications from candidates seeking part-time hours, job-share arrangements, or other flexible options. We’re open to shaping the role around the right person, and all working patterns can be discussed at the interview stage.
IPPR is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, and from applicants with a range of professional and lived experiences. As an organisation engaging in critical debate about a wide range of progressive policy issues, we value the creativity and range of perspectives that a diverse team can provide.
