The target audience for this programme will be engineers who have an interest in changing career and may consider the South Wales semiconductor industry. For example, mid-career engineers and/or recent graduates who have completed an industrial placement.

The engineers we recruit may have a variety of backgrounds/experience. As well as electrical and mechanical engineers, we’ll be looking for those with experience in cyber security (cyber engineers), facilities management, health & safety, equipment maintenance & repair etc., as these are all roles required by the South Wales semiconductor industry.

The 3-day programme will provide participants with a solid understanding and experience of the industry and the employers operating across South Wales. Following their attendance we hope this programme will generate a healthy interest in this growing sector, with many participants going on to apply for jobs. This is the overall aim of the programme.

The intention is to pilot the programme in March ’26 (dates tbc), with up to 20 participants, and then run further cohorts from late spring ’26 onwards.

The pilot programme is being developed under the CSconnected Strength in Places Fund (SIPF) project, and the activity is being managed by Cardiff University’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Unit.
