Job overview

A Clinical Educator in District Nursing and Community Response Services plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of care delivered across community settings. This position involves leading the education and development of clinical staff—both registered and non-registered—within integrated services, with a primary focus on district nursing teams. The educator works closely with service leads and clinical managers to ensure staff are competent, confident, and equipped to deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care. Responsibilities include designing and delivering training programs, assessing clinical competencies, providing supervision, and fostering a culture of continuous learning. By supporting frontline staff in managing complex care needs and promoting best practices, the Clinical Educator helps reduce avoidable hospital admissions and ensures patients receive optimal care within their home environments.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Specialty Educator is responsible for designing and delivering targeted education programs to healthcare staff within a specific clinical area. They assess competencies, support professional development, and promote evidence-based practice to ensure high-quality patient care. Acting as a mentor and subject matter expert, they collaborate with clinical teams, contribute to service improvement, and uphold safety and regulatory standards. This role combines leadership, teaching, and clinical expertise to foster a culture of continuous learning across healthcare setting

The Education Team in community nursing plays a vital role in ensuring that nurses working in home and community settings are equipped with the skills, confidence, and clinical knowledge needed to deliver safe, high-quality care. This team designs and delivers training programs, supports professional development, and facilitates mentorship for both new and experienced staff. Their work includes organizing simulation sessions, competency assessments, and study days tailored to the evolving needs of community healthcare. By promoting evidence-based practice and continuous learning, the Education Team helps maintain clinical excellence and supports nurses in managing complex care within patients’ homes, care facilities, and outreach environments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will:

Contribute to both formal and informal teaching commitments, including ward based simulation and clinical teaching working with the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Education team.

Ensure all staff have access to training and education which supports them to develop their skills and competencies.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional registration with NMC/HCPC/GPC (depending on the role advertised)
  • Degree level of knowledge or equivalent level of knowledge and / or experience, supplemented by specialist knowledge relevant to the role to masters level or equivalent experience
  • Registered mentor
  • Post registration qualification relevant to specialty or equivalent experience
  • Qualification in teaching, learning and assessing in clinical practice and significant experience of delivering training and education in the clinical setting
  • IT skills to produce educational resources, reports and data

  • Non-medical prescribing
