Job overview

An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen to join the Trustwide Manual Handling Advisory Service for an appropriately qualified Nurse or AHP, although based at Wansbeck this role will involve travel to other sites, community bases, schools and patients homes dependent on service demands.

Main duties of the job

To implement an agreed ergonomic strategy to all employees, patients, visitors / families on Manual Handling issues within both the community and acute as required under the current legislation to minimize any work related musculoskeletal disorders.

To undertake a senior role within the Moving and Handling Advisory Service (MHAS) and to assist in the provision of an expert specialised service of training, advice and support regarding moving and handling of people and objects.

To assist in the development of moving and handling services and delivering exemplary clinical practice in all areas of the Trust, contributing to the reduction of moving and handling incidents across the Trust and to patient and staff safely.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To have a highly developed specialist knowledge across a range of acute and community work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience

To have significant experience and evidence of post registration / post graduate study and continuing development.

Hold a healthcare qualification to degree level or equivalent with evidence of registration of a professional body

Have evidence of appropriate presentation skills and/or teaching experience

To support head of service with any action on manual handling development

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Healthcare qualification to degree level or equivalent
  • • Membership of a professional body (RCN, NMC, HCPC etc.)
  • Relevant teaching qualification e.g. PTTLS/DTTLS/ PGCE/ENB7318 / Teaching certificate
  • • Evidence of teaching and/or presentation skills
  • • Evidence of study at post graduate level e.g Post Grad Certificate/Diploma (or modules towards) in a relevant discipline
  • Membership of National Back Exchange.
Desirable criteria
  • • M&H Instructor Course Or equivalent
  • Current membership of local and national relevant interest group(s) e.g. National Back Exchange

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant postgraduate experience in healthcare setting
  • Specialist knowledge of health and safety law and risk management of a whole range of ergonomics / back and musculoskeletal health issues.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools

  • It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role.
