Support Worker - Waking Nights​

Overtime Rate: +£2 on top of hourly rate

About the role:

We currently have opportunity to work in a supported living service supporting two gentlemen overnight. You will need to be confident working alone.

About Mr B and Mr J:
Mr B is a man with a diagnosis of Autism in his late 50's. He loves a cuppa and interaction with staff. Recently, his health has declined and has experience some falls.

Mr J is a man with Autism and epilepsy, in his mid 30's. He enjoys the safety of his bed, and requires a sensory-filled approach. Mr J can at times express himself in a distressed state. Someone comfortable with this is essential.

Both men have good understanding of spoken communication, but they use Makaton and other visual-based communication styles to enhance and make their wishes and preferences known.

Both men present with obsessive behaviours and will need you to help them cope with this using their own coping strategies and support and guidance developed by the existing team and health professionals. Both men require reassurance and consistency to feel safe and understood.

Overnight you will provide a safe and consistent, relaxed environment. You will also need to encourage a healthy sleep routine.

You will need to pay attention to small communication cues and behaviours to direct the right support.

About You: 

We are looking for people who will be a positive advocate for for both men, providing support during both the good and more difficult times.

You will be confident, able to think outside the box, with a kind and patient personality.

You will be person-led, getting to know and understand both men as individuals.

About the working pattern:

​We work over a 2-week rolling rota. This post is part-time working 2 nights a week. For the right candidate a full time role is negotiable.
