Job Title: Trustee – Digital Portfolio

We are recruiting a new Trustee to support the board and wider organisation around the implementation and adoption of new digital and AI technologies. We’re keen to hear from current or recent Chief Technology, Chief Digital or Chief Information Officers who could bring an excellent track record of operational and strategic expertise to our board in an up-to-date, hands-on way.

Prior Trustee experience is not essential and this role could be a strong board entry position for the right candidate. With five Board meetings per year, and the encouragement to join one of our sub committees, time expectation is a minimum of one day per month.

Job Title: Country Director, Ukraine

Location: Based in Kyiv with travel across Ukraine and to London, UK

Contract: 12 month fixed term contract with possibility of extension

Hours: Part time 3-4 days per week with potential to expand to full time

World Jewish Relief is a UK-based NGO that provides life-saving and life-changing action to people in crisis around the world. We work with our trusted local partners to help people survive the consequences of conflict and disaster, to thrive and rebuild their lives. We deliver programmes using our expertise, with urgency to achieve maximum and sustainable impact for those within and beyond our community.

World Jewish Relief has been working in Ukraine for 30 years, supporting a wide range of programmes and local partners to address pressing humanitarian and social needs. In response to the current context and the significant social and economic challenges facing the country, we are establishing a dedicated Ukrainian office to strengthen our presence and positioning for accessing additional funding.

We are now seeking a Country Director to establish and lead this new office in Kyiv, representing World Jewish Relief at the highest levels and forging strategic relationships with the Government of Ukraine, international donors, NGOs, international development agencies and other organisations. This role will build on the expertise of our partners and the long-standing experience of World Jewish Relief UK to deliver effective, sustainable, and impactful programmes for communities across Ukraine.

About you

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Proven senior leadership experience in humanitarian and/or development settings, including programme strategy, operational management, and external representation.
  • Strong track record in donor engagement (bilateral, multilateral, UN), contract compliance, and consortium management.
  • Experience working with and strengthening local partners, with a strong understanding of Ukraine’s civil society context.
  • Experience in project cycle management, financial oversight, and risk management in high-pressure environments.
  • Experience in building networks and relationships with partner organisations.
  • A deep familiarity and understanding of the civil society in Ukraine
  • Fluency in English and Ukrainian
  • Demonstrable leadership and management capabilities with skills to liaise at government levels as well as with all vulnerable client groups.
  • A self starter, with the capacity to work with limited supervision and support and with exceptional administrative and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and diplomatic skills including representation, networking and negotiation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues
  • Knowledge of the social sector demonstrating an understanding of vulnerability within Ukraine.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles, diversity, and inclusion, with particular empathy for Jewish communities in Ukraine.

Putting inclusion and diversity into practice

Over the last 2 years we have been proactively seeking to ensure we can be a more inclusive and diverse organisation. We’ve established a DE&I working group of staff, have brought in external experts to assist us understand unconscious bias and have had facilitated discussions with the team to assess and analyse our culture with a set of recommendations produced. We have amended our HR practices and our Code of Conduct, conducted a diversity audit, assessed our gender pay gap and are looking to further diversify our Board.
