PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £24,800 to £27,667 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

BBC EXTEND

This role is advertised as part of our BBC Extend programme for disabled people. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Radio Kent is the BBC’s Radio Station for the county of Kent. Our weekend daytime show (Saturdays and Sundays 1000-1400) also serves listeners in Sussex and Surrey, so we’ve got the whole of the South East covered! We’re now looking for someone who’s full of ideas and thrives in a fast-paced environment to join our production team for these two key shows.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • You’ll help producers in preparing and outputting our four-hour weekend programmes.
  • You will support a multiplatform approach to our local content.
  • The role has some technical responsibilities, including editing audio and dealing with live sources as the show is transmitted, as well as speaking to callers.
  • You will be preparing content for our social media channels and BBC Sounds.
  • As part of the production team, you will also come up with ideas for stories and treatments, set up guests, write scripts and provide research background.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • You will have the ability to work flexibly and efficiently under pressure, to tight deadlines and in a constantly changing live studio environment, with first rate communication skills.
  • You’ll know what producers and presenters need to create the best possible content, you will have a good understanding of how to tailor material to suit different media, and you’ll be excited about BBC Local’s goals and the future of audio.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team;
  • Be able to come up with creative treatments to enable brilliant storytelling;
  • Calm under pressure;
  • An understanding of the target audience for BBC Radio Kent, BBC Radio Sussex and BBC Radio Surrey;
  • Experience of how to make the most of our social media and digital opportunities.
