Salary: £28,000 per annum

Hours: Full Time Monday – Friday (37 hours)

Purpose of the Role

Carers Trust Heart of England’s core aim is to support unpaid carers and their families by
providing  the  highest  possible  quality  services,  information,  advice,  and  support.
Supporting  unpaid  carers  to  have  a  life  alongside  their  caring  role  and  to  access  the
support they need.
The Day Services Team Leader will be responsible for the effective daily operation and
direct delivery of day service sessions across Carers Trust Heart of England’s area of
operation. The postholder will lead by example — supporting staff, volunteers, and
participants to create safe, person-centred, and engaging sessions for people with a
wide range of needs, including dementia, acquired brain injury, physical disabilities, and
learning disabilities.

They will act as the main point of contact during service delivery, ensuring high
standards of care and support, positive communication with families and carers, and a
welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants.

Key Responsibilities
•  Lead and oversee the day-to-day running of day service sessions, including set up and

closing, ensuring they are safe, well-organised, and person centred.

•  With  the  Head  of  Day  Services  ensure  there  is  adequate  staff  cover  for  sessions,

proactively arranging cover and sessional support where necessary.

•  Ensure activities are creative, inclusive, and flexible.
•  Actively participate in the direct delivery of activities, providing hands-on support and
engagement  with  service  users  to  include  help  with  mobility,  medication,  personal
care, and support at mealtimes.

•  Supervise,  support,  and  motivate  staff  and  volunteers  during  sessions,  ensuring

effective teamwork.

•  Plan  and  coordinate  daily  activity  programmes  that  are  engaging,  inclusive,  and

tailored to participants’ needs and interests.

•  Act  as  the  main  point  of  contact  for  carers,  families,  and  visitors  during  sessions,

ensuring effective communication and support.

•  Ensure  all  safeguarding,  health  and  safety,  and  regulatory  requirements  are

consistently met.

•  Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and support plans,
as required and including some same-day data entry into client record management
systems.

•  Provide feedback and updates to the Head of Day Services regarding session delivery,

outcomes, and any concerns.

•  Contribute  to  the  continuous  improvement  of  services,  bringing  forward  ideas  and

suggestions for development.

•  Support  new  staff  and  volunteers  through  induction,  mentoring,  and  on-the-job

guidance.

•  Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.
•  Be  prepared  to  on  occasion  attend  events  or  activities  outside  of  core  hours  e.g.

evenings and/or weekends.

Other Duties
•  To ensure that all activities undertaken on behalf of Carers Trust Heart of England,
externally  or  internally,  are  executed  in  accordance  with  the  overall  aims  of  the
organisation and in line with policies and procedures.

•  To undertake these duties in a framework that recognises the diversity of employees

and encourages equality of opportunity for all.

•  To undertake any other duties as delegated which are deemed appropriate within the
grade and responsibilities of the post following consultation with the postholder.
•  Where  appropriate  to  monitor  ongoing  environmental  health  and  safety  issues,

reporting repairs and defects as appropriate.

Person Specification: Day Services Team Leader

Essential
•  Experience working in a social care, health, or community support setting.
•  Strong leadership and team coordination skills, with the ability to motivate others.
•  Ability to deliver and participate in engaging activities that meet a range of needs.
•  Excellent  communication  and  interpersonal  skills,  with  the  ability  to  build  positive

relationships with service users, carers, and families.

•  Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and best practice in supporting people

with diverse needs.

•  Organised and reliable, with good record-keeping and reporting skills.
•  Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to changing needs and priorities.
•  Car driver and have access to own vehicle.

Desirable
•  Supervisory or team leader experience.
•  Relevant qualification in health, social care, or community work.
•  Knowledge of the challenges faced by unpaid carers.
•  First Aid training and/or other relevant specialist training.
•
