Job Description and Person Specification: Research Assistant: Preclinical Resource Development Job title: Responsible to: Hours: Salary: Location: Research Assistant: Preclinical Resource Development Research Programme Manager 5 days a week for 3 months or equivalent £6,250pa (FTE 25,000) Remote with occasional in-person meetings Working relationships: Reports to the Research Programme Manager and is part of the Research Directorate. Works closely with Neurodevelopment Theme Leads and with other Theme Leads as necessary. BACKGROUND The Epilepsy Research Institute serves as the central hub for the epilepsy research community. Our mission is to radically advance research into the causes, prevention and treatment of epilepsy and associated conditions. The Institute aims to strengthen the epilepsy research ecosystem by driving strategic investment and developing partnerships and collaborations between academia, the NHS, industry, funders, patient groups, and people affected by epilepsy. Central to everything we do is a culture of advocating and actioning research priorities. Underpinning our strategy are six themed research programmes, with a Task Force group led by UK Theme Leads. Our Theme Leads are driving a programme of activities and initiatives that support epilepsy research in the UK and beyond. The Institute is building an ecosystem that will attract the best researchers, foster an ambitious and inclusive culture of collaboration, and enable research into epilepsy to flourish. JOB PURPOSE The Research Assistant: Preclinical Resource Development will be responsible for collating information on preclinical models used in epilepsy research and undertaking follow-up checks to ensure accuracy. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Perform literature searches to identify preclinical models for research into genetic mutations associated with epilepsy. 2. Extract information from research papers to populate a template. 3. Follow up with researchers/groups to check key information. 4. Communicate and engage effectively with colleagues and Theme Leads. 5. Maintain confidentiality in relation to Institute work. 6. Comply with employee responsibilities under health and safety legislation. 7. Undertake other duties as reasonably requested as part of the role. 1 PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications: • Undergraduate in a discipline encompassing neuroscience • Postgraduate in neuroscience-related area with experience of preclinical research Experience: • Undertaking desk research • Extracting information from multiple sources • Producing reports • Analysing data • Database development Skills and knowledge: • Strong writing skills • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Personal competencies: • Self-motivated, with the ability to plan and prioritise own workload • Good interpersonal skills • Good organisational skills Essential (E) /desirable (D) E D E E E D D E E E E E 2
