The Rio Cinema in Hackney is seeking an Operations Assistant to provide essential admin support, maintaining venue systems and a pleasant, well-organised cinema office.
The Rio is the leading independent cinema in Hackney, with a complex calendar of public screenings and
private hires, and a busy staff team and office. This is a key role within a small, hardworking and
supportive cinema team.

Role responsibilities
Audience: Customer Service
- Respond to customer queries or complaints, dealing with and escalating them as necessary. You
should be well informed on our upcoming programme, very familiar with our membership offer,
and be able to offer in-depth help with box office issues.
Rio Team: Weekly Rota, co-ordinating staff training
- Creating and timing up the Rio’s weekly rota, and booking in security team
- To ensure staff are accurately clocked in for their hours and communicate any differences to the
agreed rota to the Operations Manager. Logging holiday and sick pay. - To assist the Operations Manager in organising staff training, including maintenance of staff
training records.
Venue Systems
- Coordination of necessary services for Health and Safety compliance (eg PAT testing / Fire
Safety) as well as venue systems (eg waste disposal and recycling / lift maintenance) and office
systems (stationery orders and cleaning materials)
Admin
- To manage ticketing and membership sales for the Rio while you are on shift, trouble-shooting for
customers or FOH team as needed - Admin support as needed for our Operations Manager and Executive Director, including data
entry and minute-taking. - Filing and managing HR paperwork, Delivery notes and invoices, managing guest lists and comp
requests for festivals and events
Person specifications
Essential
- 1 year experience in an admin role in an arts or community organisation
- Experience working in a busy team
- Experience and knowledge of Health and Safety practice
- Experience working with rotas
- Friendly and cheerful attitude and to able to work well in a team
- Punctual, presentable and reliable
- A proactive, hands-on approach to solving problems
- Demonstrable excellent customer service skills
- Strong and effective communication skills with the ability to liaise with customers, team
members and hire clients - Knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word
Desirable
- Experience working with Savoy Systems / Oscar
- Familiarity with Dalston and the local community
