About

The role of an Urban Therapy Outreach Worker is to create sustainable, therapeutically informed relationships with YP (aged 12-25) involved in SYV, county lines and exploitation. Our clients are often defined as ‘hard-to-reach’ by statutory and clinical services. Typically, they have a life trajectory shaped by cumulative risks and burdens.

A high proportion of our YP present with post-traumatic symptoms, emerging mental health issues and attachment difficulties: having been raised in care-giving contexts populated with adverse childhood experiences. Added to this, they often have co-morbidities in the form of conduct disorders, substance misuse issues, educational underachievement and violent criminal offending behaviour.

It’s because of the range and complexity of our clients’ issues that conventional services (including clinical provision) are poorly suited to meet their needs. Conventional services that focus on treating single issues with rigid operational structures struggle to engage our clients. And so, they’re typically labelled as hard-to-reach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To organise, engage and maintain a caseload of YP involved in SYV, county lines, and/or exploitation - as directed by funders/Management.
  • To develop therapeutically informed relationships with YP.
  • Keep the worker-client relationship and therapeutic process at the forefront of one’s work with clients, their families and other professionals
  • Meet with YP in both statutory and non-statutory settings
  • Be able and willing to travel locally within West London and on occasions further.
  • Be flexible in working as and when, including unsociable hours during the week. It is very rare for any weekend work to be needed.
  • Share all safeguarding concerns with the Safeguarding Lead
  • Attend and contribute during team meetings, clinical supervision and operational supervision.
  • Work in a multiagency context: attending professionals’ meetings, Child Protection conferences, etc., produce appropriate reports and maintain professional working relationships with (non) statutory partners - as per your case load.
  • Maintaining professional standards with partner agencies, their staff and other colleagues, ensuring the reputation of the V.I.P.
  • Dedicate 10% of your working week to processes, including maintaining weekly monitoring reports, systematic evaluation practices, and personal/Organisational CPD
