Job overview

The post holder will develop, implement and evaluate a seamless service, ensuring that all Respiratory patients within the caseload receive the highest standard of clinical care.

They will act as a support sister/Charge Nurse, demonstrating a high level of expertise helping develop the service further, providing specialist advice, education to both patients and staff within primary & secondary care.

The post holder will provide support to the patients, their carers/relatives and health care professionals to develop strategies to manage their recovery and early signs of recurrence to avoid readmission. The post holder will actively undertake clinical audits and research within the specialist area enhancing service delivery and change.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will care for patients experiencing complications of their respiratory condition. It is a varied role, which will involve working front of house assessing acutely unwell patients, supporting the staff to safely discharge the patients, manage nurse led clinics and attending patients homes in the community.

The post will have the benefit of training and support resources as well as individual training and competency development plans.

The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the on-going development of clinical practice, research and standards of care within the service, including development of policies, protocols and guidelines and contribute to service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues, to include the undertaking of quality surveillance. The Support Nurse will ensure the safety and well-being of service users, and always work in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Adult Nursing
  • Evidence of respiratory experience
  • NMC Level 1 Registration
  • Teaching & mentoring qualification

Knowledge & skills

Essential criteria
  • A team player able to work well with others & demonstrates commitment to team objectives
  • Effective communication skills, both written & verbal.
  • Ability to work within the boundaries of the NMC Code of Professional conduct
  • Commitment to the needs of the service including a flexible and adaptable approach in the work environment/work practices
  • Effectively prioritises and co-ordinates own work
  • Ability to use initiative to make a decision within sphere of work and/or knowledge recognising where assistance is required
  • Commitment to adhere to Trust Policies and Procedures and to contribute to and implement policies in own area and propose changes
  • Excellent IT skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working within a medical or acute setting.
