Carousel is looking for new trustees to join us and play a key role in supporting their team over the next few years.

Carousel is looking for new trustees to join us and play a key role in supporting their team over the next few years.

The charity supports learning disabled people to achieve their artistic ambitions and are looking for people who share our vision for excellence, access and equality in the arts.

Role details
  • Part-time, four meetings (plus AGM) per year

Role purpose
  • Support the ethos, rules and values of Carousels work
  • Contribute to planning what Carousel will do and what it wants to achieve
  • Participate with staff, in regular constructive evaluation and assessment of Carousel’s project work
  • File formal quarterly progress reports to Arts Council England
  • Attend some Carousel projects through the year
  • Attend some trustee meetings in person
  • Represent Carousel at a range of events
  • Retire at the end of 6 years and take a minimum of one year off before seeking re-election
Role responsibilities

As a trustee you will be required to:

  • Make sure that Carousel complies with its governing document
  • Ensure Carousel complies with charity law and other relevant laws and best practice
  • Avoid putting yourself in a position where your duty to Carousel conflicts with personal interests or loyalty to any other person or body
  • Not receive any benefit from the charity unless it is properly authorised and is in the best interests of Carousel
  • Avoid exposing Carousel or its assets, beneficiaries or reputation to undue risk
  • Make well balanced and adequately informed decisions in regard to both long and short term interests of Carousel
  • Ensure Carousel is only carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
  • Contribute to planning what Carousel will do, and what it wants to achieve
  • Ensure Carousel is financially viable and is spending charity funds on furthering its aims and objectives
  • Not receive any benefit from the charity unless it is properly authorised and is clearly in the charity’
Person specifications

Carousel would particularly like to hear from people with an interest and skills in the following areas:

  • Children, young people and schools
  • Environmental policy and good practice
  • Marketing and audience development
  • Private sector relationship building
