Airbel—IRC’s Impact Lab—designs, tests, and scales solutions for people affected by conflict and disaster. The IRC’s Best Use of Resources (BUR) team increases the impact and scale of humanitarian programming per dollar spent. BUR supports the IRC and the humanitarian sector to generate, synthesize, share, and use cost evidence. BUR also coordinates the Dioptra Consortium, a group of eight NGOs promoting cost analysis, and manages Dioptra's associated open-source software.

Reporting to BUR’s director, the Cost Research Coordinator is at the heart of BUR’s operational excellence. This position will support BUR’s costing work by leading consortium coordination, managing software, and advancing team-wide planning and execution. This position does not directly supervise others.

Major Responsibilities

Consortium coordination
•    Identify and ensure the completion of strategic action points.
•    Coordinate consortium meetings and engagements.
•    Manage finances, including budget planning/tracking and overseeing contract/payment execution.

Software management
•    Support software users and administrators with software configuration, troubleshooting, and user queries.
•    Manage software sprints according to budgets and timelines. 
•    Coordinate with consortium partners and software developers to test software features, issues, and fixes.
•    Translate and communicate software technical details between tech and non-tech audiences.
•    Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure data accuracy and data protection within the software. 
•    Update and maintain software documentation with new release notes, help pages, and videos.

BUR team management
•    Build, update, and maintain team-wide work planning systems and budgets.
•    Track and report on team-wide goals, including identifying risks and opportunities to advance organizational strategy.
•    Coordinate team meetings to advance interpersonal collaboration and learning.

Cross-cutting responsibilities
•    Automate and systematize processes to improve operational efficiency, including but not limited to the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
•    Ensure high-quality knowledge management through website management and file management practices.

Job Requirements

Work Experience
•    Bachelor's or master's degree in business administration, public policy, or related field. 
•    3+ years of experience (bachelor’s degree) or 2+ years of experience (master’s degree) in the humanitarian or development sector.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
•    Experience managing large and long-term (6+ months) projects with multiple stakeholders at various organizational levels, including strategic shifts and ongoing task reprioritization..
•    Experience managing software projects with high user satisfaction and a clear understanding of software development and maintenance processes.
•    Excellent Excel spreadsheet data organization and analysis skills.
•    Excellent communication skills, including ability to facilitate senior leadership meetings and demonstrate software.
•    Excellent attention to detail for the purpose of analyzing spreadsheets and troubleshooting software.
•    Highly organized with proven time and project management skills.
•    Creative problem-solving and planning skills.
•    Ability to work independently as part of a remote team across time zones, cultures, and contexts.
•    Excellence communication skills, cultural sensitivity, flexibility, ability to improvise, team player.
•    Commitment to IRC’s core values.
•    Fluency in spoken and written English required.

Strongly Preferred
•    Software development.
•    2+ years of work experience in low- or middle-income countries.
•    Fluency in French.

Working Environment: Due to differing time zones, this position requires occasional flexibility to participate in weekday-only meetings or calls outside regular working hours when needed.  For US candidates, East Coast time zone preferred. This role may require working remotely full or part-time. Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled work hours. Some international travel, as needed, up to 10%.

Compensation: Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

  • UK Pay Range: £51,470 - £60,048
  • US Pay Range 75,000 - 100,000
