Purpose of the post
The Programme Manager will have a key responsibility for supporting project delivery of the GSK Dementia and Shingles UK-Wide study, working with colleagues from across HDRUK and partners across the 4 nations. Key tasks will include:
Data Strategy and Access
- Work closely with the scientific and data teams across HDRUK and GSK to deliver and adapt where necessary the data strategy and roadmap for access to national datasets in partnership with national data providers.
- Lead on project management and co-ordination of data access and linkage applications, developing project plans and timelines, tracking deliverables, interdependencies, risk and mitigation, and supporting alignment to activities across the Programme
- Support study leadership team in implementation of systematic, transparent and consistent processes for data access approvals, and onboarding of new data partners, ensuring join up and alignment across other relevant programmes within HDRUK, for example the BHF Data Science Centre and in line with best practice guided by the HDR UK Trust & Transparency team.
Project Management and Delivery
- Lead on preparation of HDRUK provided project delivery updates to the joint HDRUK and GSK project delivery group and HDRUK, GSK and UK Dementia Research Institute Oversight group to track and ensure delivery of programme deliverables and milestones.
- Coordinate with the HDRUK Patient, Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) team, PPIE activities promoting effective and inclusive approaches to demonstrate trustworthiness and promote confidence in the ethical use and re-use of health data for research and innovation.
- Contribute to equality, diversity and inclusion through fostering an inclusive culture and effective team dynamic across multiple partners contributing to the study, including building a close working relationship with the study sponsorship team at GSK.
- Support monitoring, measurement and communication of delivery and impact and support alignment across wider relevant HDRUK Programmes.
- Work with the HDRUK finance and contracting teams to maintain robust contractual and financial management across a diverse range of partners contributing to the study.

- Support the set-up and delivery of stakeholder meetings and events where required.

Planning and organising
This post is embedded within HDRUK’s Strategy & Brain Health Team and will plan and manage a specific workload of complex, over-lapping activities and tasks. The role will require high levels of organisational skill and ability to work across organisational boundaries. The post-holder will need to effectively plan and deliver their work and be able to respond to changing needs in a fast-paced organisation.
Problem solving
Supported by study Leadership Team, the Programme Manager will be expected to use problem solving skills to respond to the diverse demands on the team. The postholder will operate with significant independence and will require confidence and resilience in planning and in dealing with enquiries and challenges that arise across the work. The post holder will make an effective judgement on when to escalate issues to senior colleagues’ attention and with what urgency.
Decision making
The post-holder will make day-to-day operational decisions for their own workload. They will identify, initiate, and develop opportunities for streamlined and effective working with the study team and wider Programmes as well as with HDRUK partners and organisations within project scope.
Key contacts
The post holder will work closely and build and maintain effective working relationships across HDRUK, with the GSK study team and our partner organisations. The post will sit within the HDRUK Brain Health team and directly support the work of the study leadership team. In particular, they will work closely with the Study Associate Director and Scientific leadership team, led by Professors Angela Wood and Cornelia van Duijn.
Experience
- Experience of driving delivery at pace, particularly within private-public partnerships
- Direct experience of building and maintaining complex stakeholder relationships, particularly within cross-sectoral (commercial, academic and NHS) settings
- Experience of working in the health data ecosystem in the UK, with a good understanding of health data science and infrastructure (e.g. Trusted Research Environments).
- Demonstratable success in delivering large scale, UK-wide health data research and/or health data infrastructure programmes, with understanding of research and innovation delivery
- Good understanding of health data access information governance, security and privacy requirements, and the practicalities of provision of, access to and use of health data for research and innovation
- Experience of understanding the needs of relevant audiences and presenting complex information to different stakeholders ranging from senior clinical to tech.
- Expertise in adjusting plans to break down long term strategies into component parts and set milestones.
- Experience of navigating ambiguity, championing change and providing clarity, with the ability to bring simplicity to complex processes.
- Experience of building collaborative teams across multiple organisations and working directly with senior managers, with humility and confidence.
- Proactive approach and expertise in developing creative solutions to challenging problems and developing quality management approaches to continually improve delivery, including an ability to determine when problems need to be escalated.
- Experience of financial management and an understanding of the impact of financial flows
- Knowledge of a range of project management tools and demonstrable project management experience, across complex projects.

Dimensions
- This is a full-time role, part-time may be considered (minimum 0.8FTE).
- This role is home-based, however you will be required from time to time to work at other premises or sites, but this is not expected to exceed two days of travel per week.
