Hillingdon Swimming Club in Middlesex is looking for a Head of Performance. This is a strategic and operational leadership role responsible for the design, execution and management of the performance training programme at Hillingdon Swimming Club covering 3 squads with over 50 swimmers. The position involves working in partnership with the Executive Committee and in collaboration with the Head of Development ensuring the delivery of high-quality training and competition experience for swimmers from club to international level.
The performance squads are based at the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex with its 50m pool.
Key Objectives :
- Lead and manage a high-quality training and development plan for all swimmers within the performance squads.
- Adapt and tailor training plans to suit varying abilities across the performance squads with a focus on skills and technique required for long-term progression.
- Enhance and structure land training programmes to complement pool sessions.
- Collaborate on a unified club coaching structure with the Head of Development.
- Develop and implement a coherent competition schedule supported by training plans.
- Manage, mentor and support coaches at all levels within the club.
- Create a culture of continuous improvement, performance excellence and athlete welfare.
- Represent the club at county, regional and national forums, including training camps.
- Champion swimmer welfare and ensure adherence to Swim England’s Wavepower and safeguarding policies.
Main Responsibilities :
- Direct planning and execution of training programmes.
- Lead on squad selection and progression.
- Establish, implement and review individual athlete training plans with clear goals and objectives.
- Attend competitions, including club-organised meets.
- Drive the technical and professional development of coaching staff.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders - Club Chair, Committee, parents and athletes.
- Organise land training and training camps.
- Produce content for newsletters, press releases and social media.
Candidate Profile
A highly motivated, experienced and visionary swimming coach with a strategic mindset, strong leadership and communication skills, and technical expertise, capable of building and maintaining a performance culture whilst fostering long-term athlete development and supporting a collaborative coaching team environment. Experience of effective and positive working with volunteers and parents to achieve shared aims.
Essential qualifications :
- Swim England Senior Coach Certificate/ ASA Level 3 Coaching Award (or Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate
working towards Senior Coach). - Previous experience in a Head Coach or Assistant Head Coach role working with Performance swimmers.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience of
Aquatics GB pathways and competition systems. - DBS Enhanced Check, Swim England Safeguarding certificate, full UK Driving Licence.
- NRASTC or NPLQ qualification (or availability to attend a course on commencement)
Desirable qualifications :
- Swim England Team Manager Modules 1 and 2
- Swim England Land Based Coach
Experience and Skills :
- Proven track record of developing competitive swimmers at multiple levels.
- Leadership and mentoring experience with coaching teams.
- Excellent planning, communication and organisation skills.
- Competence in using Team Unify, social media and other digital tools for communication.

Location and Hours :
- Main location is Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex (Uxbridge) and other local pool facilities within the borough.
- Requirement to work early mornings, evenings and weekends and attend competitions and meetings.
- Remote work expected for administration and planning required (equipment provided).
- Domestic and international travel may be required.
Reporting Line
Reports to Club Chairman and Executive Committee.
