Job Description:

Minibus Driver

  (Evening

s )

Job purpose

Based at Kingswood School, and reporting to the Operations Manager, you will drive the School Minibus
and transport pupils.

Key duties & responsibilities

•  To drive the minibus in an appropriate and safe manner.
•  To conduct a driver’s inspection of the minibus before and after journeys.
•  To follow the schedule of driving as identified by Line Managers.
•  To fully comply with all Kingswood School policies and procedures as well as external legislation,

road traffic regulations and the Highway Code.

•  Be presentable in appearance and be professional, polite and courteous at all times. Uniform

and safety wear is provided.

•  Ensure pupils adhere to all School regulations throughout the journey, including remaining

seated and wearing seat belts.

•  Ensure that children are met by adults, where necessary and where arrangements have been

made.  Drivers must disembark the vehicle to ensure safe delivery and are responsible to ensure
children cross roads safely. A duty of care towards the children is paramount.

•  To inform the School and parents immediately in anticipation of a late bus, on either inward

and/or return journey.

•  To fully comply with all vehicle security regulations of School, DVLA, and DVSA rules and

regulations relating to licences, including updating the School as appropriate, and allowing
licence checks as required.

Carry out any other duties commensurate with the post may be reasonably required by the Line
Manager.

You will be expected to:

•  Conduct yourself with professionalism, tact and diplomacy at all times as a representative of

Kingswood

•  Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times
•  To comply with all school policies and procedures including reporting any concerns to the
appropriate person in relation to those covering child protection, health, safety, welfare,
security, confidentiality and data protection.

The ideal candidate

Essential

  qualifications, experience and skills

You will have:

•  Experience of driving a minibus
•  Calm safe approach to driving
•  The ability to manage hours effectively
•  The ability to maintain high standards in respect of safety and cleanliness
•  Good interpersonal skills and an ability to interact appropriately with others within the school

community

Desirable

  qualifications, experience and skills

•  A current clean Driving Licence with D1 (passed driving test before 1997 or taken a D1 test after 1997)
•  First Aid certificate
•  Previous experience of working in a school environment
•  Health and Safety at work qualification

Child protection

It is your responsibility to help promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for
whom you are responsible, or with whom you come into contact, and to adhere to and ensure
compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If, in the course of carrying
out the duties of the post, you become aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of
children in the school, you must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Protecting children from the risk of radicalisation is part of the School’s safeguarding duties (under the
Prevent Duty).

Terms and conditions

Normal hours of work

Your hours of work will be 5.30pm to 7.30pm, Monday to Friday, term time only, although there may be
some flexibility with hours and days.

The rate of pay is £34.94 per shift
