The RES are looking to recruit a new Chair of the Professional Development & Education Committee.

Background

The RES Professional Development and Education (PDE) Committee, established in 2020, co-ordinates and oversees the Society’s activities relating to the professional development, training and education in economists in both educational and professional settings.

The PDE Committee:

  • Bring communities of economists together e.g. Easter Training School.
  • Advocate for economics e.g. Professional Development Summit.
  • Improve diversity, inclusion and integrity in the profession e.g. Professional Development Active Bystander sessions.
  • Develop the next generation of economists e.g. How to prepare for the EJME and upcoming RES Doctoral Training Programme.

It is divided into two sub-committees:

  • Postgraduate Research Training sub-committee
  • Professional Development sub-committee.

It is expected that each committee member actively contributes to the objectives of one of the two sub-committees.

Role Responsabilities

The PDE Committee Chair is responsible for overseeing the committee, working with its members to deliver activities aimed at supporting the Economics community. The Chair ensures that the committee’s activities support the Society’s strategic objectives, delivers financially viable activities and works in collaboration with related RES initiatives and the Society’s office.

The estimated time commitment for the role is equivalent to 8 days per year. The term is three years. There is potential for the term to be renewed once for up to 3 years, within the usual protocols of key appointments within the Society through the Trustee Board. This is an unpaid position.

  • A panel will review all applications the week beginning the 3 November. If shortlisted, you will be invited to join a 30 minute Zoom call
  • All applicants will be informed of the final outcome by the end of November.
