  • BookTrust is the UK’s largest children’s reading charity. We know that children who read are happier, healthier, more empathetic, and more creative. They also do better at school.

Working with every local authority and across every region in the country, and supported by Arts Council funding, we reach over 3 million families a year via partners in schools, children’s centres, health visitors and libraries. This incredible network helps us to get children reading across the country.

  • Job Summary
  • We are seeking a new Chair to help lead and guide our Board and organisation with our continued development and success. This is an exciting time to be part of BookTrust, and the Chair will lead the Board as they oversee implementation of our new strategy for 2025-30.

In addition to recruiting a new Chair, as current members of our Board approach the end of their terms of office over the next year or two, we plan to recruit several new Trustees. This is a great opportunity to join our fantastic Board and we welcome interest in the role of Chair as well as joining as a Trustee in the future.

Our Board is committed to bringing the value and joy of reading to disadvantaged children across the UK. Joining our Board as the Chair or as a Trustee offers scope to positively influence the life outcomes for millions of children, through the benefits of reading.

We value diversity of thought and experience on our Board and encourage applications from candidates with lived experience of disadvantage and from under-represented communities. As a nationally distributed organisation working in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and with our head office in Leeds, we welcome applicants from around the country.
