About Us

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is the UK’s largest professional body representing family doctors. We are committed to improving patient care, advancing standards in general practice, and supporting GPs in delivering the highest quality of care. RCGP Scotland plays a key role in shaping the future of primary care across the country — influencing health policy, supporting professional development, and driving forward innovative projects that make a real difference to general practice and patient outcomes.

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and organised Projects Officer to join our dynamic Projects and Initiatives Team in Scotland.

The Projects Officer will be responsible for coordinating the development and management of a range of projects, initiatives, and continuing professional development (CPD) activities that contribute to the professional development of general practitioners, supporting key changes in the health agenda, and improving the quality of patient care across Scotland.

They will work closely with Clinical Leads, colleagues across RCGP, and external partners such as the Scottish Government, NHS Education for Scotland, and other primary care organisations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys managing multiple priorities, building strong relationships, and seeing projects through from concept to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the delivery of multiple projects and initiatives within agreed budgets and timescales.
  • Work closely with Clinical Leads and external partners to achieve project outcomes.
  • Prepare progress and financial reports for funders and internal governance structures.
  • Promote project activities through effective marketing and communication strategies.
  • Organise and service meetings, events and conferences that engage and support our members.
  • Represent RCGP Scotland at external meetings, acting as a professional ambassador for the organisation.
  • Support the development of project proposals and business cases to secure ongoing funding.

About You

You’ll bring strong project management experience and a passion for making a difference.

Essential skills and experience:

  • HND or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience coordinating and delivering projects to deadline.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and report writing skills.
  • Strong organisational ability and attention to detail.

Ideally, you will have experience working within an NHS or healthcare setting, and knowledge of general practice or working for a membership organisation.
