About the Garden The NBGW is accredited by Botanic Garden Conservation International and Wales’ only national botanic garden. As a centre of expertise for biodiversity, conservation, education, research, and horticulture, NBGW has become an established national institution since opening in 2000, working with partners throughout Wales and internationally. Based in Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire, the 568-acre estate includes living collections, curated gardens and a National Nature Reserve. On-site facilities include classrooms, laboratories and the National Seed Bank of Wales. With over hundred staff members, NBGW is a diverse organisation delivering a wide range of services and public benefits. As a tourism destination, NBGW attracts 160,000 visitors and 25,000 learners annually. Description of Role The Catering/Hospitality Assistant is part of the Hospitality team working in the various Hospitality outlets within the National Botanic Gardens Of Wales. The Position involves giving excellent customer service, adhering to hygiene regulations and encouraging visitor enjoyment in all areas of the garden. Tasks and responsibilities include supporting corporate events, cash handling and use of our till system, serving hot food, cold food, drink products, replenishing stocks, ensuring cleanliness at all time, ensuring crockery, dishes and cutlery are washed and ready for use and clearing tables. In addition the will require a multi-skilled individual who can adapt with a flexible approach to the duties and role of the Hospitality Assistant in order to meet the needs of the business. Page 1 of 3 Main Duties and Responsibilities 1 Serve hot and cold food and drinks to customers within our catering and corporate events areas Ensure crockery, dishes and cutlery are washed and ready for use, re-stocking supplies on counters and dispensers. Ensuring all drinks fridges have sufficient stock at all times. Operating the till and handling cash and bank card transactions. Keep tables clear and clean. Keep Hospitality areas and all associated food preparation areas clean and tidy. Properly dispose of waste and recycling, both inside and in helping with bulk waste. Washing up and operate the dishwasher. Provide high standards of customer Care. Aiming to promote visitor enjoyment, maximise sales, and encourage return visits as well as wider customer satisfaction and positive feedback. Contribute and communicate as a member of the Garden staff team to any activities or duties that support and promote the garden, and help in its smooth day-to-day running and its overall success. Supporting and promoting the ethos, activities, and reputation of the national Botanic garden of wales. Observe Health and Safety systems and procedure. Report any potential hazards, faults or problems to the Head of Corporate and Hospitality, the Duty Manager, or an appropriate responsible or senior person. Build excellent relationships with others inside and beyond the garden is expected. Excellent communication skills – with customers, managers and colleagues. Able to work both collaboratively in a team, and independently taking responsibility and acting on your own initiative. Well organised, adaptable, and able to find creative ways to solve problems. Ability to multi-task and juggle priorities as led by your line manager. Experience Experience of handling cash and operating n EPOS till. Experience in a similar customer facing role. Personal qualities Approachable and friendly manner.
