Barnardo's Employment, Training & Skills – Yorkshire (Bradford)

Shape futures. Inspire ambition. Change lives.

Every day at Barnardo's ETS we see young people who have the potential to achieve incredible things. Many just need the right person to believe in them. You could be that person.

About Us

For over 14 years, Barnardo's Employment, Training & Skills has been supporting young people across Yorkshire to take their next steps into education, apprenticeships and employment. We specialise in working with learners who may have faced barriers, disadvantage or disruption—and we help them unlock their confidence, skills and a pathway to a brighter future.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Business & Retail Tutor to join our Bradford Training Centre and deliver engaging Level 1 and Level 2 Study Programme qualifications.

This is more than a teaching role. It's a chance to:

  • Empower young people to believe in their abilities

  • Give them skills that employers value

  • Help them progress into meaningful study, apprenticeships or work

  • Play a key part in transforming their future direction

What You Will Do

You will inspire and motivate young people aged 16–19 by:

  • Delivering high-quality Business and Retail lessons that are creative, practical and engaging

  • Bringing customer service, employability and commercial thinking to life

  • Designing great learning experiences—lesson plans, schemes of work and assessments

  • Supporting our learners to grow in confidence, resilience and skills

  • Providing clear feedback and tracking progress so learners feel supported and challenged

  • Creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment where every student belongs

  • Collaborating with pastoral, English, Maths and support teams

  • Preparing young people for their next steps—whatever that looks like for them

Who We're Looking For

We want someone who brings energy, passion and commitment to developing young people.

Essential:

  • A qualification in Business, Retail, Customer Service or similar (L3 or above)

  • A teaching qualification (PTLLS/AET/Cert Ed or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of Business & Retail curriculum at Level 1 and 2

  • Experience teaching or supporting young people in FE, training or youth settings

  • Strong communication and classroom management skills

  • A belief that every young person deserves a second chance

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering Business, Retail or Employability courses

  • Experience supporting learners with SEND, disadvantage or complex barriers

  • Understanding of progression routes into apprenticeships and employment

Why Barnardo's?

Here, you will not just teach. You will:

  • Be part of a team driven by purpose, compassion and values

  • Have opportunities for professional growth and development

  • Use your creativity to shape a curriculum that inspires real change

  • See first-hand how your work transforms confidence, wellbeing and futures

We believe every young person is capable of success—and together, we help them prove it.

We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo's values.  We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.

For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which was rolled out in April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a part of our People & Culture Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo's and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay.

Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours.  More details on Barnardo's pay framework can be found upon application.
