CREDIT CONTROLLER
Finance Manager

JOB PURPOSE

The Credit Controller is responsible for managing and maintaining the organisations
credit and collection processes to ensure timely payment of invoices, minimise overdue
debt and maintain healthy cash flow. This role involves liaising with clients, resolving
payment issues and maintaining accurate records of credit transactions. Whilst ensuring
the smooth running of financial processes and compliance with organisational policies and
regulations.
To support the senior management.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1  Assess and approve new credit applications based on company policies.

2  Review customer credit limits to minimise financial risks.

3  Monitor customer accounts to ensure compliance with agreed credit terms.

4  Proactively chase overdue payments via email, phone or written communication.

5  Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure payment arrangements

are honoured.

6  Negotiate payment plans where necessary to recover outstanding debts.

7  Prepare and distribute regular aged debt reports for management.

8  Analyse overdue accounts and recommend appropriate actions (eg suspension of credit

terms or legal proceedings).

9  Provide forecasts of expected cash inflows to assist with financial planning.

10  Investigate and resolve invoice queries or disputes in a timely manner.

11  Collaborate with Internal teams to address discrepancies or disputes.

12  Ensure all disputes are logged and tracked to closure.

13  Maintain  accurate  and  up-to-date

records  of  all  credit

transactions  and

communications.

14  Ensure all customer interactions are documented.

15  Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies and procedures

16  Ensure appropriate security and confidentiality is always maintained.

The above-mentioned duties are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may
be required to carry out such other appropriate duties as may be determined by the Head
of Finance.

The post holder will be expected to adopt a flexible approach to ensure the efficient and
effective running of the Group.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

                            Credit Controller

Qualifications and Professional Development
Essential

•  A-levels or equivalent qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., Finance, Business, Accounting).

•  Evidence of continuous professional development in finance or credit control management.

•  Customer service experience, including managing client relationships, resolving issues, and addressing

concerns in a professional manner.

Desirable

•  A recognized accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA).

•  Further professional development or certification in credit management (e.g., Institute of Credit Management,

CICM).

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
Essential

•  Strong understanding of credit control processes and financial reporting.

•  Numerical and IT skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with financial software (e.g., Sage,

QuickBooks, SAP).

•  Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to relate well to all stakeholders

•  Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively with colleagues across different departments.

•  Ability to work independently, manage your own workload, and prioritise tasks effectively.

•  Diplomatic and confident, with the ability to handle sensitive financial information and customer

communications professionally.

•  Flexible approach to meet demands of the role and adapt to changing priorities.

•  Self-motivated with the ability to use initiative to ensure tasks are completed on time and to a high standard.

Desirable

•  Knowledge and understanding of skills sector and further education legislation.

•  Familiarity with credit management policies and procedures specific to the industry.

•  Ability to identify and manage financial risks within the credit control process.

Experience
Essential

•  At least 2 years’ experience of working in a Finance role

Desirable

•  Experience of working as a Credit Controller

•  Experience of working in the Skills, Further Education or Awarding Sector
