JOB DESCRIPTION Advocate (Scarborough area, North Yorkshire) Post: Hours: Location: Reports to: Pay: Other: This is a permanent contract subject to a six-month probationary 30 hours per week Home based Service Manager £25,545 FTE period. You must be prepared to complete the L4 Certificate in Independent Advocacy Practice. About the job: This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our advocacy service in North Yorkshire. We offer flexible working hours Monday to Friday. There is no shift work, and we do not work evenings or weekends. Please note, this role does not involve supporting people with their personal care. This role is to support people through social care processes, to help them to participate and have a voice. The role will involve providing face-to-face support with people and supporting people at meetings with professionals. You will be helping people to understand the information that is being shared with them and be involved in planning their future care and support. For people who lack capacity to make specific decisions about where they live or medical treatment, you will be obtaining and sharing a person’s views with health or social care professionals involved in making best interest decisions on their behalf. Your role will include representing people who are subject to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. This role includes supporting people of all ages. You will be working with people with dementia, people with learning disabilities, autistic people, people with physical and sensory impairment, people with an acquired brain injury and those with a mental health need. You will; • Understand the principles and role of advocacy. • Have experience of working in the voluntary, health or social care sector with people who have additional needs. • Be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures around the Mental Capacity Act, Care Act and wider legislation. • Be able to provide written reports. • Demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills -both verbally and in writing. • Have good IT skills and be proficient using Microsoft Office 365. • Maintain own online calendar and databases. • Be able to develop and continually improve service delivery. • Be able to keep up to date, accurate records in line with Data Protection • Be able to reflect on and learn from experience. • Be able to use supervision and peer support effectively. • Be able to manage and prioritise a complex and varied workload. • Be able to identify and report on safeguarding issues. • To be self-motivated and be able to work under own initiative. • Take responsibility for your own learning and development, keeping up to date with changes in advocacy practice and legislation. • Signpost people to other services where Cloverleaf is unable to provide support. • Have a flexible and positive approach. • Work ethically and honestly • Be able to take personal responsibility for your own performance and decisions. • Work remotely • Be part of a team via remote means and in person meetings Additional requirements. • Our advocates need to travel independently of public transport. You will need to have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle that you can use for work purposes during your hours of work. Travel across the county of North Yorkshire is required as part of the role. • Applicants must live within or near North Yorkshire, preferably close to the Scarborough area. Travel expenses will only be paid within the contract working area. • Due to the independent nature of advocacy, you must not be employed by any other health or social care organisation at the time of appointment.
