Job Description

“Meaningful Career, No Experience Needed”

30 hours per week

Looking for a career that makes a real difference?
Are you honest, respectful, fun, compassionate, and kind? If so, you might be exactly who we’re looking for.

At MacIntyre, we support adults with learning disabilities in Wigan to live meaningful, fulfilling lives. We recruit based on values, not experience — because we believe the right attitude matters more than a CV. Full training is provided.

Why a Support Worker role?

Many people join us from retail, hospitality, care, admin, or customer service — often because they want something more rewarding and stable. While many sectors are changing or shrinking, the social care sector continues to grow, offering:

  • Long-term job security
  • Clear career progression
  • Recognised qualifications & full training
  • Truly meaningful work

What does the role involve?

You will be supporting Andrew in his goal to live more independently. He has made good progress towards this. Recent steps include taking on a few volunteer roles and being able to go away on holiday.he is currently working on improving how he manages his own money.

He is in his mid-forties. He enjoys having a good chat about films, TV, music, football and horse racing.

There is no personal care required in this role, but when feeling unsettled, Andrew's behaviour can be challenging, and part of your job will be to work with him to manage his verbal aggression. We will give you full specialist training around this.

It’s about being there, encouraging independence, and celebrating individuality.

Whilst mainly focussed on supporting Andrew, you will also work with a team that support two other gentleman who live locally.
