JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Supported Internship Coordinator Reports to Employability & Next Steps Lead Location Salary Flexibility Contractual status Role summary North Cornwall and surrounding areas including in Devon £28K Part time - 4 days a week 2 years Fixed-term, with the potential to move to a permanent role as the Supported Internship programme grows. The Supported Internship Coordinator will operationally lead Step into Learning’s Supported Internship programme, launching in 2026–2027. The postholder will build partnerships across multiple sectors, source and manage meaningful placements. They will ensure all learners receive high-quality, compliant, and well-supported internships. Key responsibilities These key responsibilities are neither a comprehensive nor exhaustive list, and the duties may be varied from time to time by your line manager or executive director. Employer Engagement & Partnership Building Build and maintain relationships with employers across multiple sectors. Promote Supported Internships and inclusive recruitment. Source and secure meaningful placements aligned with learner strengths and aspirations. Provide ongoing support to employers to ensure successful placements. Maintain employer engagement records and track satisfaction/feedback. JD Supported Internship Coordinator Keep ahead of national and local labour market trends to inform employer engagement and learner placement opportunities. Programme Delivery & Coordination Lead the operational setup and placement of the Supported Internship programme. Plan and coordinate internship schedules and progression pathways. Track learner progress and workplace readiness. Job Coach Line Management Allocate and manage Job Coaches. Ensure Job Coaches are effectively deployed and supported. Monitor Job Coach documentation, progress reports, and compliance. Support training and development for Job Coaches. Recruit and induct new Job Coaches as needed for programme growth. DWP & Funding Administration Manage operational DWP processes, including returns, claims, and documentation. Liaise with DWP advisors and work coaches. Maintain audit-ready records for Access to Work applications, employer payments, and learner support needs. Track ongoing DWP payments, claim, and ensure financial integrity. Compliance, Documentation & Reporting JD Supported Internship Coordinator Ensure all placements meet safeguarding, health & safety, and workplace suitability requirements. Maintain programme paperwork: agreements, reviews, progress logs, and employer records. Provide monthly reports to the Employability & Next Steps Lead and MIS Lead on: o Employer engagement o Learner progress and outcomes o Job Coach deployment o Programme risks and gaps Contribute to Self-Assessment Reports with data, trends, and performance insights. Ensure all records are ready for internal audits and external inspections. Professional Development Participation in programme development meetings and contribution to long-term Supported Internship strategy. Collaboration with other leads to ensure alignment with Step into Learning curriculum and learner pathways. Keeping up to date with Supported Internship best practice, employer engagement strategies, and national guidance, and approaches to supporting learners with SEND. Willingness to undertake relevant training such as TSI (Training Systemic Instruction) or other systemic training approach. Decision-Making Boundaries & Accountability Operational Authority: Build and agree employer partnerships. Recommend and allocate suitable placements for learners. JD Supported Internship Coordinator Deploy and manage Job Coaches day-to-day. Make operational decisions relating to placement scheduling, employer liaison, and learner support via Job coaches. Approve Job Coach resources within agreed budgets. Submits DWP paperwork, claims, and returns following established procedures. Escalation Responsibilities: Escalate safeguarding, welfare, or H&S issues immediately to DSL/DDSL or H&S Lead. Escalate financial, contractual, or programme-wide strategic issues to the appropriate lead. Key Competencies o Ability to build and maintain relationships with employers across multiple sectors. o Skilled in promoting inclusive employment and Supported Internship benefits to employers. o Experience in planning, coordinating, and monitoring workplace placements. o Ability to track learner progress, work readiness, and outcomes effectively. o Experience in line-managing staff, including recruitment, deployment, and performance management of Job Coaches. o Proficiency in managing operational DWP processes, funding claims, and audit-ready documentation. o Strong understanding of safeguarding, health & safety, and workplace compliance requirements. o Awareness of national and local labour market trends to inform placements and programme planning. o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with learners, parents/carers, employers, and colleagues. JD Supported Internship Coordinator Measure of success o Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities. o Proactive, solution-focused, and able to make independent operational decisions within defined boundaries. o Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in all learner and employer interactions. o Experience and Knowledge of working with young people with SEND, including understanding EHCPs, and/or experience supporting learners in employability or Supported Internship programmes. Success in this role will be measured by the effective delivery of key priorities, objectives, and targets set by the organisation. This includes achieving o Establishing and maintaining strong employer partnerships across multiple sectors. o Securing meaningful, high-quality placements for all Supported Internship learners. o Achieving successful placement completion for the first cohort and growing numbers year-on-year in line with organisational targets. o High learner retention, progress in work-readiness skills, and positive employment or further learning outcomes. o Effective deployment, support, and performance management of Job Coaches. o Accurate, timely, and audit-ready submission of DWP paperwork, claims, and returns. o Positive feedback from learners, parents/carers, and employers regarding the quality of placements and programme support. o Up-to-date monitoring of local and national labour market trends, ensuring placements align with opportunities and sector needs. o Timely and accurate reporting of programme performance, learner progression, and employer engagement to senior leadership. o Maintenance of safeguarding, health & safety, and workplace compliance standards in all placements.
