Purpose of the Job

Home-Start HOST is looking for someone with the skills and commitment to support dads and male parent/carers
with the transition to fatherhood. You will work to promote and strengthen dads and male parent/carers
relationship with their baby as part of the Parent Infant Mental Health pathway. Working with dads and male
parent/carers who have mild to moderate mental health needs you will provide direct support and coordinate our
volunteers. Working in close partnership with specialist services you will offer a vital connection ensuring that
family’s needs are identified and met at the earliest opportunity.

Home-Start HOST
Home-Start HOST is a local charity providing support for families through highly trained staff and volunteer peer
supporters. We help families with young children through their challenging times as the earliest years make the
biggest impact: Home-Start HOST supports parents when they need it most, because childhood can't wait.
Children who are raised in a stable, loving, family environment are more likely to have a positive and healthy
future and so the support you will offer families can last a lifetime.

Dad Matters
Dad Matters is a Home-Start HOST project aimed at supporting dads and male parents/carers with parent infant
relationships in the first 1001 critical days. The project delivers group and 1:1 support in a variety of community
settings. Dad Matters works alongside health professionals to acknowledging the importance of male
parents/carers and promoting inclusion and access to wider services.

Greater Manchester Parent Infant Mental Health Services (PIMHS)
The PIMH Service has extensive links with Health Visiting, Maternity Services, Children’s Centres, Adult Mental
Health, and Children’s Social Care, etc.  Providing clinical support, training, consultation, and supervision across
the large multi-agency network. Dad Matters provides peer-support for Dads across Greater Manchester as part of
this co-ordinated support.

Personal Qualities
We are looking for someone with a creative approach to working with male parents/carers and babies. You will
have excellent communication skills with an ability to speak and listen to a variety of audiences. Your interest in
Parent-Infant relationships and supporting male parents/carers and families will mean you have an ability to
support parents in difficult emotional circumstances with care and attention. You will have a keen interest in
supporting the development and delivery of high-quality peer support.

You will draw on your experience of being a male parent/carer and/or working in early years, health, education or
social care to support male parents/carers, families and babies with their emotional health wellbeing and

development. We provide a  full package of training, clinical support, and guidance from an
already established Dad Matters and PIMH’s team at HOST to support you to:

-  Promote positive parent child early relationships.
-  Enhance and develop your knowledge and skills in relation to PIMH.
-  Sensitively deliver information about concepts and service developments.

The post holder will:

•  Provide high quality peer support to male parents/carers through direct 1:1 work and group settings.
•  Deliver community outreach to raise awareness of the challenges dad and male/parent carers may face

and what support is available.

•  Promote Dad Matters and HOST externally by ensuring appropriate liaison, networking and

communication with referrers, professionals, community leaders and organizations

•  Deliver information and education to dads around parent infant relationships.
•  Keep records up to date using our specialist CRM system, Lamplight and bespoke systems
•  Undertake any other duties that may be required to discharge the role and support the organization.
•  Collaborate with male parent/carers and professionals with specific expertise to develop the support

delivered.

•  Raise awareness of the risks of poor mental health for fathers and their families during the perinatal period
•  Recruit, train and support volunteers to deliver the Dad Matters project.
