The Paediatric Emergency Department at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital is offering an exciting opportunity of a 12 month secondment.

The Paediatric Emergency Department at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital is in a busy district general hospital seeing over 27,500 children per year. The service offers a dedicated Paediatric Emergency Department located adjacent to our Adult Emergency Department. The new department includes a paediatric HDU room and CAMHS room.
Our successful applicants will benefit from the internal and external courses, including ED Trauma course, PILS among many other opportunities. The applicant will gain support from our senior team and our practice development team.
Main duties of the job
- To assist with the management of the nursing team, under the direction of the ward Manager/ Matron.
- Communicate proactively with all staff on the clinical condition and treatment plan of patients and ensures accurate nursing records are maintained by all staff.
- Participate in clinical training including teaching and supervision of new staff, unqualified staff and student nurses in the ward environment.
- Ensure work with the Trust /unit and ward policies in order to maintain professional, clinical and patient safety.

* Ensure a high standard of nursing care is performed at all times and reviews and regularly updates these standards
*To take responsibility for the assessments of the care needs; the development, implementation and evaluation of care to ensure the highest possible standards of care are received by patients
*To supervise and teach other nursing and non-nursing staff, acting as an excellent clinical role model and team leader to ensure quality care is delivered to the patients.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Registered Children’s Nurse and has current live PIN on NMC register.
- Evidence of recent and continuing professional development.
- Teaching/assessment qualification
Desirable criteria
- Diploma or Degree level study.
- Relevant clinical course
- EPALS
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience in Paediatric Nursing
- Experience of leading the Ward/Unit and ensuring high quality care is delivered
- Experience of completing & supporting with audits
Desirable criteria
- Experience with appraisals
- Experience of supporting a new starter/students
- Experience of Datix and complaints management
SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates skills in leaderships & management
- Intravenous medications
Desirable criteria
- Cannulation & Venepuncture
- Understanding for managing early stages of capability, conduct & sickness absence
- Interview skills
