Summary
The Catering Department provides all food and beverages for pupils, staff and visitors. As well as enjoying a professional reputation with the pupils, parents and teachers, it also provides catering services for external customers and other schools and regularly hosts national sporting events, weddings and other functions throughout the year.
The post holder has responsibility for overseeing the administrative tasks within the Catering Department, working effectively with the catering staff to ensure that there are sufficient and suitable resources to meet the needs of the school.
Main Duties
- Work with the Head chef to efficiently order, maintain and control catering stock on a timely basis; carry out monthly audits and provide regular and ad hoc accurate reports for the Director of Catering as and when required; correctly record new products, recipes and suppliers;
- Accurately process all departmental invoices, updating the Catering database with information on a timely basis and following up any pricing queries; Liaising with existing and new suppliers as necessary to source products or equipment at competitive rates;
- Overseeing and maintenance of staff clocking in machine, and run reports for the Director of Catering
- Monitor and maintain a list of issued safety equipment; ensure all visitors and contractors complete any necessary paperwork and follow the necessary College procedures whilst on site; responsibility for reporting all accidents to the appropriate bodies;
- Ensuring that any breakdowns are reported promptly to service contractors, and that repairs are recorded in line with the College’s procedures and to the appropriate standards, and that staff are kept informed of progress with any repairs;
- Providing general administrative assistance for the Catering Department, manage and correctly record all personnel matters including, absences, sickness, training and reporting any concerns to the Catering Operations Manager or Director of Catering.
- Answering phones in a friendly and polite manner, building rapport with suppliers and colleagues, and communicating with the rest of the team with any messages that need passing on. The main point of contact with visitors into catering, dealing with their requests and anything they may need.
- Ability to respond and act on any other reasonable request made by the Senior Leadership Team or the Director of Catering.
- Carrying out duties and responsibilities in accordance with safeguarding protocols and H&S procedures.

- Demonstrate strong organisational and planning skills and a proven ability to work under pressure;
- A positive attitude, willingness to get engage fully where required and persistence in following through multiple projects over long periods;
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise tactfully and assertively with staff, pupils, visitors and the general public;
- Ability to prioritise and organise both own and others workloads, delegating effectively where necessary;
- Highly self-motivated; willing to learn and adapt, with a focus on continuous improvement;
- Smart and well presented at all times;
- Able to use Microsoft office package effectively (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Email);
- Knowledge and appreciation of safeguarding procedures and protocols;
- Experience of compliance with legislation and regulations relevant to the position;
- Empathy with the values, customs and aspirations of Epsom College, and a ‘can-do’ attitude;
- A flexible approach to work, in terms both of responding to changing or unforeseen circumstances and being willing to work outside regular hours as the need arises;
Desirable Qualification, Experience and Skills Requirements
- NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Production or City and Guilds 706/1&2 or equivalent;
- Previous experience of working in a schools environment;
- First Aid Qualification.
Terms and Conditions
- Salary:Salary for the full time post will be £30,000 per annum arrears on 25thof the month. Salary for working 5 days across the 7 day
- Hours: full time are 40 hours per week, working on a rotational basis for 5 out of 7 days in every week, including evening and weekend working.
- Holidays: 20 days per annum plus statutory bank holidays full time working and pro rata for part time working rising by one day per year up to a maximum of 25 days pa following 5 years continuous service.
- Pension:The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4% in compliance with current legislation

Offer of Post
The post will be offered subject to receipt of satisfactory written references, pre-placement medical assessment, proof of appropriate qualifications, and satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and overseas police check if appropriate, as well as confirmation that the successful candidate is able to work in the UK. In addition, prior to interview an online search of internet search engines, websites and other publicly available and publicly accessible platforms to ascertain applicant’s suitability to work within a school environment will be undertaken on applicants who have been shortlisted. Please note whilst the Enhanced DBS check will be paid by the College if an overseas police check is required it will be at the cost of the successful applicant.
