About the role
Are you a skilled and caring nurse ready to take the next step in your career? If you're already leading a team and are passionate about specialising in palliative care, we’d love to hear from you.
We're looking for a Senior Team Nurse to join our Hospice Inpatient Unit at Thirsk. A peaceful and supportive environment dedicated to delivering personalised end-of-life care. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the first specialist palliative care unit in Hambleton and Richmondshire, helping us support more people at the end of life.
Your Role as a Senior Hospice Nurse
As a Senior Team Nurse, you’ll lead by example, providing clinical leadership, coordinating shifts, and supporting the day-to-day running of the ward. You’ll manage and mentor nursing and care staff, uphold high standards of care, and work collaboratively with patients, families, and the wider hospice team to deliver truly holistic support.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and coordinate safe, effective nursing care on the inpatient unit.
- Line manage and mentor nurses and HCAs, supporting a culture of learning and development.
- Support and deliver staff training and competency programmes.
- Champion best practice in complex and specialist palliative care.
- Work with patients and families to develop individualised care plans.
- Provide expert symptom management and sensitive end-of-life care.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Be a role model for compassionate, person-centred care.
What We’re Looking For:
- Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration.
- Minimum 5 years’ post-registration experience, ideally in palliative, oncology, or acute care.
- Experience managing teams and coordinating care in a ward or complex community setting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A calm, confident approach to emotionally sensitive situations.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
How we look after you
- We put people first in all that we do, which includes our own team
- Wellbeing and resilience support with a dedicated team by your side
- Flexible and hybrid working for many roles
- A supportive and caring environment
- Opportunities to grow, develop and progress, with culture of lifelong learning
How to apply:
Download and read through job description (via the ‘Downloads’ section at the top of the advert) as you will need to tell us how you meet the essential requirements of the role.
Make sure you answer all supplementary questions as part of your application otherwise your application will be automatically rejected.
