The Vacancy
Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a faith-based humanitarian relief and development organisation working to save and transform the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people. IRW’s International Programme Division is recruiting for the position of ‘Project Manager (Health)’ to join its dynamic team based in South Sudan.
Purpose of the role
The Project Manager (Health) is responsible for overall leadership and management of ’Support for Resilient and Sustainable Health Systems in Tonj North County of Warrap State, South Sudan’’ (SURS) Project, including effective coordination with other actors, timely implementation of project activities and effective response to emerging health needs. Responsibilities include overall implementation of the project’s components including needs identification, new programme development, implementation planning, procurement planning, staff management, project reporting, liaison and support of the county/state on health intervention, and capacity building and training of health staff.
This position will support SMOH in coordination, planning, monitoring, data collection/management and reporting of health activities in project area. In addition, the post holder will actively participate in health Sub-Clusters in project area.
The primary purpose of the position is to provide leadership, programme and financial management support for the health project including management of day-to-day operations of the SURS Project, supervising relevant staff under this project and ensuring targets are met in compliance with donor regulations and ensure that projects are implemented with high quality.
The successful candidate must have:
- Medical doctor or master’s in social science, or other relevant health profession, along with experience of working in primary health care in East Africa.
- Experience in managing health programs.
- Familiarity with the South Sudan BPHNS and National Health Plan.
- Knowledge of donor rules/regulations particularly GAC funded projects.
- Strong understanding of healthcare industry including its regulations, policies, procedures, and standards in East Africa.
- Well-honed project management skills and experience in managing large-scale healthcare programmes.
- Budget management and financial skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to represent Islamic Relief and work effectively with a range of stakeholders including government and partner NGOs.
- Work experience in humanitarian emergencies in an International Non–Governmental Organization (INGO) Set-up.
