About The Role
Help the St Michael’s Hospice Retail portfolio reach its full potential. This is an exciting time to join the charity as we’ve rapidly expanded our retail portfolio.
Over the last few years, five new shops have been opened, including the introduction of the largest charity superstore in the Midlands on a site of over 50,000 square feet. The expansion will continue with a large format store in Ludlow in 2026. With demand for hospice care increasing the need to continue the growth in retail income is as great as ever, which will require a strong Head of Retail to maximise every income opportunity.
We are looking for a tenacious person with drive, commitment and energy to bring the retail strategy to reality for the hospice. The right person will seek out every opportunity to deliver the best customer service, maximise income and minimise costs for the benefit of our patient care. Significant experience, knowledge and passion for all areas of a multi-million retailer are essential. You will be fully supported and encouraged by the Director of Income Generation, Marketing and Communications to deliver upon the outlined strategy and plans.
As an experienced leader, with a proven track record, you will guide and nurture the retail team to ensure high performance, alongside job satisfaction and wellbeing of both staff and volunteers. You will be a relationship builder keen to look for innovative partnerships and media opportunities. A good knowledge of health and safety and trading legislation is also key.
Good communication, IT literacy, reporting and analytical skills are essential for this position, alongside an approachable nature with a sense of humour. For this pivotal and crucial role for the hospice we are asking for demonstrated past success in achieving significant budgets in a similar senior position, and a full driving licence for travel across Herefordshire.
If you’re committed to joining St Michael’s Hospice as we embark upon this continued growth phase, which will have a lasting impact across Herefordshire, we’d love to hear from you. In return for your commitment, we’ll provide a competitive salary and benefits package including 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays, within a highly reputable charity celebrating over 40 years of care across Herefordshire.
37.5 hours- occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
