- Following the appointment of the serving Deputy Head (Academic) to the post of Chief Education Officer, Brighton College International (BCI) as part of its expansion into Asia and Europe, there is now an exciting professional opportunity for a proven secondary senior or middle leader to join the Brighton College Senior Leadership Team as Deputy Head (Academic) from September 2026. The successful candidate will have outstanding academic experience with demonstrable impact on pupil progress and achievement in their school.Executive Summary

The Deputy Head (Academic) is responsible for ensuring the highest educational standards in both public examinations and the wider academic life of the school. The successful candidate will embody, lead, and develop the intellectual culture of curiosity, confidence and kindness that defines our community. Reporting directly, and accountable, to the Head Master, the Deputy Head (Academic) will play a pivotal role in shaping current and future academic strategy, line managing key staff, and sustaining the school’s outstanding record of examination results, university admissions, and scholarly endeavour.
The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will be to:• Provide Strategic Leadership in Curriculum, Teaching & Learning and Assessment.

For full details on the key responsibilities, please see the Job Profile Document below.Person SpecificationEssential Criteria• A proven track record of delivering academic excellence, with measurable impact at GCSE, A-level and/or similar and equivalent qualifications (such as BTEC, IGCSE or IB).
• Demonstrable leadership experience in an educational setting, either as a senior leader or as an experienced middle leader with significant whole-school responsibilities.
• A passionate advocate for scholarship, with the ability to inspire a culture of curiosity, confidence and kindness in pupils and colleagues alike.
• Strong leadership and management skills, with evidence of developing and empowering colleagues.
• Experience of curriculum innovation, assessment design, and enhancing teaching and learning.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to engage diverse audiences.
Desirable Criteria• Evidence of designing or implementing innovative academic enrichment initiatives.
• Direct experience of university admissions processes, particularly Oxbridge and other competitive destinations.
• Experience of, or the willingness and capacity to learn about, leading learning support provision and public examinations.

There is also an excellent and flexible benefits package, the contents of which can be controlled by individual teachers themselves.
