Merchandise and eCommerce Manager

We are seeking to identify a Merchandise and eCommerce Manager to join the Premier League’s Commercial team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Premier League’s recently launched eCommerce platform (shop.premierleague.com) and the merchandise for sale on site at Premier League international events, including the Premier League Summer Series and Premier League Mornings Live.  

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multiple teams across the Premier League and will be responsible for managing our agencies and working with our partners to design and develop product, the design of physical retail stores at international events, and the management of impactful digital marketing campaigns and website optimisation in order to maximise awareness, interest and sales, along with supporting the Premier League’s wider strategy around audience growth and data acquisition. The role will also engage with key Premier League stakeholders, including Clubs, Partners and Licensees around opportunities where appropriate.  

This individual will also play a supporting role in the ongoing development of the Premier League’s long-term retail strategy, providing the opportunity to work closely with colleagues across multiple markets and multiple departments, including Brand, Commercial Insights, Digital Media, Events and International Engagement and Broadcast.

The role

Project Management & Reporting

  • Manage the day-to-day relationships with the Premier League online and onsite retail partners.
  • Report on all Premier League retail operations, including managing reporting with Premier League retail partners, including Quarterly Business Reviews with the Premier League online retail partner.
  • Collaborate with retail partners and internal teams to optimize marketing efforts across SEO, SEM, paid media, email, CRM, and affiliate programs to drive traffic, conversion, and retention.
  • Manage performance analysis and collaborative initiatives with retail partners, including merchandising, promotional planning and customer engagement strategies, ensuring that the retail budget is tracked and appropriately reported on within Premier League budget tools.
  • Monitor retail performance and provide actionable insights to improve sell-through, customer engagement, and brand visibility across all channels.
  • Work with Brand, Digital, and Marketing teams to create content and marketing strategies that support retail growth and product visibility.
  • Support the development of the Premier League’s retail strategy, identifying opportunities for expansion and innovation across product categories, markets and marketing and sales channels.

Merchandise Product

  • Manage the Product Catalogue across all key Premier League retail touch points, including working with the Premier League’s Brand team to develop product designs and the Premier League’s Partnership team to engage Partners and Licensees to sell their Licensed Product.
  • Ensure product design is compelling and will resonate with Premier League fans, where appropriate running focus groups to understand fan feedback on product design.
  • Ensure Premier League retail partners adhere to Premier League policies e.g ethical sourcing standard, modern slavery.
  • Ensure regular cadence of product launches, aligning with the Premier League calendar and key retail moments.

PL Shop (eCommerce)

  • Coordinate across internal teams and external partners to ensure optimal retail channel performance, including digital storefronts, UX/UI optimisation, and customer experience across platforms.
  • Work with digital architects to ensure the seamless management and utilization of customer, behavioural, and transactional data to inform retail strategy.

Event Retail

  • Work with the Events & International Engagement function to develop and execute plans to retail merchandise during flagship international events.
  • Such activity to include collaborating and coordinating with Clubs, Partners, Licensees and event partners (e.g. venues) on the end-to-end value chain of activity associated with event retail (e.g. product, store set-up, merchandising, etc.).

Requirements for the role

  • Experienced eCommerce Manager with a deep understanding of how to drive sales, including merchandise design, product mix and pricing, cadence and timing of product launches and how to drive traffic and conversation through an integrated marketing campaign.
  • Ability to apply expertise into other retail environments, including onsite retail at international events.
  • Knowledge of, and passion for ecommerce and merchandising.
  • Experience budget reporting, preparing sales data and the ability to interpret and present it in a way to draw insights to inform merchandise and digital marketing strategy
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage critical paths and projects on time.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written – and attention to detail.
  • Good working knowledge of IT packages (e.g. MS Office suite).
  • Previous experience in managing ecommerce partner.
  • Proven experience managing senior stakeholders both internally and externally.
