The Role
Reporting to the Sports Course Leader, the Junior Sports Course Coach supports the delivery of the College’s sports course programme and the supervision of participating children. The role involves assisting with the teaching of key skills, techniques, and tactics, supporting group activities, and ensuring all sessions are engaging, inclusive, and conducted safely.
The Coach is expected to foster a fun, positive, and motivating environment that encourages participation and skill development. Depending on experience, the Junior Sports Course Coach may also lead small groups, provide feedback to the Sports Course Leader, and contribute to the planning and evaluation of the course.
Main Duties
- Support the Sports Course Leader in delivering high-quality coaching sessions across relevant sports.
- Assist in teaching skills, tactics, and techniques appropriate to the age and ability of the children.
- Lead small groups or drills under direction, adapting coaching methods to meet varying abilities.
- Supervise children at all times, ensuring a safe, active, and enjoyable experience throughout the day, including during breaks and transitions.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship.
- Maintain compliance with Health & Safety and Safeguarding protocols at all times.
- Help manage equipment setup and storage, ensuring that facilities remain tidy and safe.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to participants, and communicate effectively with the Sports Course Leader(s) regarding progress or concerns.
- Support with registration, attendance checks, and general course administration as required.
- Uphold the College’s values of professionalism, care, and excellence in all interactions with staff, children, and parents.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience coaching or assisting in sports sessions for young people (experience working with children is desirable).
- Playing experience in the relevant sport to a strong standard; competitive or county-level experience is desirable.
- A recognised coaching qualification is desirable.
- Awareness of safeguarding and Health & Safety principles within a sporting environment.
- A valid First Aid qualification is desirable.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage children of all abilities.
- Friendly, encouraging, and professional approach to coaching and supervision.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting colleagues and taking direction when required.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safeguarding, inclusion, and child welfare.

Terms and Conditions
Dates/Hours: The days and times of working will be confirmed to the post holder by the Senior Commercial Operations Coordinator or delegate once numbers of attending are finalised.
Salary: £100.00 per full day to include course preparation and end of course duties. Payment as and when worked on the course.
Holiday: In addition to rate above, holiday entitlement is calculated on a monthly basis based on the hours you have worked and have submitted for payment. The calculation is 12.07% of the hourly rate for each hour worked and the amount of holiday pay paid to you for that month will be itemised on the payslip as “holiday pay”.
Pension: The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4%. Employees can opt out of the scheme.
Offer of Post

Prior to interview, an online search of internet search engines, websites and other publicly available and publicly accessible platforms to ascertain applicant’s suitability to work within a school environment will be undertaken on applicants that have been shortlisted. Please note whilst the Enhanced DBS check will be paid by the College if an overseas police check is required it will be at the cost of the successful applicant.
