We are currently looking for a Corporate Policy Manager to join the organisation in a full time position (37.5 hours per week) for an 18 month fixed term contract. Here at Mencap we understand that some of our office based colleagues can do their role from a range of locations, which is why we like to be flexible. We only ask for this role that you can commit to one full day in our London Office per week.

What we are looking for

The Corporate Policy Manager is a crucial role at Mencap. They have overall responsibility for ensuring all our policies, procedures and guidance are clear, accessible and meet best practice for a charity of Mencap’s size, complexity and mission.

We have recently completed an internal audit of our corporate policies. This has given us an opportunity to improve our policies, including how accessible and clear they are. We are looking for someone to drive forward the action plan we have agreed following the audit. We look forward to receiving your application!| 

The Governance directorate works at the heart of the organisation. We advise and support the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive to set the direction of the organisation; and partner with the Executive to be accountable for delivery of our ambitious plans to give people with a learning disability every opportunity.

What you will bring

  • Practical knowledge of charity and/or corporate governance best practice, with an ability to horizon-scan and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Experience of corporate policy development at local and national levels. This will enable you to provide clear advice on governance and policy issues.
  • Experience in managing policies that meet organisational needs and represent good practice.
  • Experience of inclusive approaches to policy development, including co-production, collaboration and accessibility.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • You will have done some project work before, so will be familiar with action plans and deadlines to be met.
  • Experienced at building effective and influential relationships internally at all levels, including Executive team and Board of Trustee level as well as externally.

The people who have the most responsibility for how Royal Mencap Society is run are our Board of Trustees. The Board is made up of the Chair of Royal Mencap Society and currently 10 Trustees.

At Mencap, at least half of our trustees have a lot of experience of learning disabilities because of personal, voluntary or professional experiences. At least one trustee must be a person with a learning disability.

The Board holds responsibility for a range of reserved matters, and gives certain authority to our Executive team in order to run Royal Mencap Society efficiently on a day to day basis.
