Parent-Infant Mental Health (PIMH) / Perinatal Co-ordinator

Hours of work: 36 hours per week (full-time)
Salary:  NJC scales 12-20 (currently £28,598 - £32,597, starting salary £28,598)
Employer: Home-Start Oldham, Stockport and Tameside (HOST), Ryecroft Hall, Manchester Road, Audenshaw,
M34 5ZJ.
Contract:  Fixed term 12 months contract, further continuation subject to funding
Base:  Community work including home-visiting within Stockport, with attendance as required at our office in
Audenshaw.  We offer hybrid and flexible working within core hours and as the role allows.

peer-support through our highly trained and well supported team of staff and volunteers. The earliest years make
the biggest impact: HOST makes sure those years count so that no child’s future is limited. Children who are
raised in a stable, loving, family environment are more likely to have a positive and healthy future.

Home-Start HOST has been funded to deliver Parent Infant Mental Health peer support service for families with
children ages 0 – 2 as part of a wider holistic offer within the first 1001 days.

Role Description:  Parent-Infant Mental Health/Perinatal Coordinator

Home-Start HOST is looking for someone with a passion for supporting families to promote and protect positive
relationships and emotional wellbeing in the first 1001 critical days.  You will provide high-quality peer support for
families to promote and strengthen positive relationships with their baby.  You will provide direct support and also
coordinate peer support volunteers, working in close partnership with specialist services, forming a vital conduit to
ensure that family’s needs are identified and met at the earliest opportunity.

You will have a creative approach to working with families and babies, drawing on your experience of working in
early years, education or social care to support families and babies with their emotional wellbeing, social and
emotional development, and mental health needs.  The ideal candidate will grow into this role with a full package
of training and support, and guidance from an established Parent-Infant Mental Health team at HOST.  You will
have excellent communication skills with an ability to speak & listen to a variety of audiences.  Your interest in
promoting positive Parent-Infant relationships and supporting families will enable you to support parents during
transitions and in difficult emotional circumstances with care, sensitivity and attention.

You will:

•  Have a passion for working with babies and their families supporting early relationships.
•  Attend relevant training and courses to enhance knowledge and skills around early relationships.
•  Share information with care and compassion.
•  Connect and signpost families with clinical support as needed.

Main Responsibilities
•  Deliver high-quality peer support to identified families.
•  Conduct a needs assessment and match families to appropriate support in a timely manner.
•  Keep records up to date using our specialist CRM system, Lamplight.
•  Recruit volunteers, promoting volunteering opportunities and assessing potential volunteers.
•  Deliver high quality training as required.
•  Supervise and support home visiting PIMH volunteers regularly and provide constructive feedback and

engagement.

•  Provide information for reporting impact in a timely manner
•  Promote HOST externally by ensuring appropriate liaison, networking and communication with referrers,

professionals, community leaders and organizations

•  Undertake any other duties that may be required to discharge the role and support the organization.

Minimum requirements for this post

Methods of assessment: A = Application; I = Interview
Education and training

Qualified to NVQ 3 level/equivalent or above in relevant subject, e.g education, childcare, social
care, and /or related training or equivalent experience
Experience

Experience as a volunteer or working with volunteers and making a positive impact

Experience of working with or supporting families with a child under 2 and making a positive impact

Has been a parent or had extended experience of 24-hour childcare responsibility

Has applied equal opportunities and anti-discrimination practice in work or volunteering

Knowledge and Understanding

Knows how to apply good safeguarding practice

Understands how to apply legislation relevant to childcare and family support e.g.  ‘Working
Together to Safeguard Children’
Knows about the work of HOST and understands our values and impact

Skills and abilities

Ability to plan and deliver successful projects on time and on budget

Ability to prepare reports using data from varied sources and use appropriate methods to
communicate messages and recommendations
Ability to develop and deliver volunteer training

Ability to recruit and retain volunteers

Ability to support and supervise a diverse team of volunteers

Ability to develop partnership working with relevant agencies and funders

Able to use varied computer applications, audio-visual aids and filming equipment

Developing Parent-Infant Mental Health Expertise

Understanding of perinatal mental health and of the importance of the first 1001 days

Ability to make good use of supervision in developing and reflecting on own practice

Interest/curiosity in perinatal period
