Contract: 12 month fixed term contract

Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, is looking for a Finance Administrator - Payroll and Banking, to join our Finance team based in London or Manchester.

About us

We help vulnerable young people by giving them the practical and emotional support they need to find a job and live independently. Centrepoint provides homeless young people with accommodation, health support and life skills in order to get them back into education, training and employment. We want to end youth homelessness by 2037.

Together with our partners, we support over 16,000 young people each year.

Centrepoint operates a hybrid working model. The requirement is a minimum of 50% of your working week. For most full-time colleagues, this means attending the office for five days over a two-week period (e.g., two days one week and three days the next). For colleagues on different contracts (including part-time or compressed contracts) this will be adjusted accordingly.

About you

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience working in a busy finance department, including payroll and income/sales ledger. You will possess a high level of numeracy and have the ability to work on your own initiative, prioritise tasks effectively, and communicate well with colleagues at all levels.

What you’ll be doing

You will support the Payroll and Income Officers, primarily working with HR and an outsourced payroll provider to deliver an efficient monthly payroll service. You will also be involved in banking, income recording, and purchase order administration.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with the outsourced payroll provider to ensure all staff are paid accurately and on time.
  • Taking primary responsibility for posting the payroll into Sun and reconciling the payroll control accounts.
  • Processing staff timesheets and ensuring third-party payments are made.
  • Paying and allocating all pension schemes each month and carrying out necessary reconciliations.
  • Supporting with the timely reconciliation of all bank accounts, including subsidiaries.
  • Supporting the Income officer with the recording, posting, and banking of all income received.
  • Administration of Centrepoint credit cards and managing procurement cards.
  • Acting as the primary contact for Finance purchase orders and receipts on the purchase-to-pay system, iPOS.

What we’d be looking for from you…

  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team to enable team and departmental targets to be met.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse data, and offer advice.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise work effectively to ensure that targets and commitments are met.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial processes and procedures as well as new developments within and outside the sector.
  • Demonstrable experience working in a busy finance department including payroll, income/sales ledger.
  • Experience of working to and delivering against tight deadlines.
  • High level of numeracy.
  • Minimum ‘A’ level or an accountancy qualification such as AAT
