Job Description Job title: Communication and Media Officer Reporting to: Head of Marketing and Communications Charity Headquarters, Trevithick Downs, Newquay 37.5 hours Location: Hours: Job Purpose The post holder will be responsible for the day to day content on key stories, campaigns and fundraising activities to promote the activities of Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust for use on social media platforms and across its media channels. Line Management Responsibilities: None Key Responsibilities: Stories Content News and Social Media 1. Produce day to day content on key stories, campaigns and fundraising activities. 2. Develop and oversee a promotional calendar with key advanced planning for all online and offline materials working closely with the Marketing and Content Officer to maximise opportunities. 3. Write, co-ordinate and issue planned and spontaneous press releases, e-communication messaging, social media copy and statements. 4. Film periodic content including patient stories and interviews for use on social media platforms and in e-communication materials. 5. Respond to enquiries from journalists and maximise all media opportunities. Develop good working relations with journalists and keep media database up to date, including collating media coverage. 6. Plan and upkeep social media platforms, populating all channels including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram, including responding to enquiries, and liaising with the wider fundraising team to ensure the public engaging with the charity receive prompt and accurate responses. 7. Proactively seek opportunities to share appropriate content on social media groups and pages to promote Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, using generic and localised messaging within geographics areas of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. 8. Content management for areas of the website, including the news pages. 9. Plan and execute the calendar to manage scheduled PR and social media is aligned to the organisational and fundraising strategies. 10. Attend key events to maximise the PR exposure for Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust. Communications and Media Officer – November 2025 11. Maintain the content library in an organised fashion, including all media files, where necessary obtaining written consent to their use from patients, the ambulance service, professional and amateur photographers and others. 12. Be media trained to act as a spokesperson and undertake interviews. Delegate this to trustees, the CEO and others where more appropriate, providing briefings and training and support where necessary. 13. Manage and be prepared to provide on call media support including social media and deal with urgent/crisis communications as part of the out of hours rota during weekends. 14. Plan and co-ordinate PR opportunities using appropriate ambassadors or social media influencers to effectively promote Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust. 15. Ensure we utilise the Cornwall Air Ambulance retail stores to effectively displace key up to date messaging. Patient Case Studies and Fundraisers 1. Interrogating and analysing the charity’s operations database and HEMS produced data, producing monthly summary reports, mission maps and statistics and providing all key media platforms with a summary press release and electronic imagery of our operational activity. 2. Researching patient case studies, working closely with the operations and clinical team, fundraising team, former patients and their families, sensitively conducting interviews and producing written and electronic content for use across a wide range of media platforms. 3. Advise the clinical team of appropriately identified patients who wish to share their story and/or visit the airbase. Lead and host the visit as appropriate. 4. Organising external media opportunities, including photoshoots and filming opportunities, managing the practical arrangements, being sensitive to the requirement of the operational team. 5. Taking photographs, shooting film at cheque presentations, and during visits by the public, corporate supporters, community groups and others, for use by the charity and the supporters in publicity. 6. Attend periodic events and meetings to promote the work of Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust. Other responsibilities of the role 1. Providing a monthly summary report of PR and media delivery to the Head of Marketing and Communications. 2. Produce periodic internal communications for staff, volunteers, trustees and ambassadors. 3. Ensuring Cornwall Air Ambulance HQ and retail locations are creatively and effectively showcasing our work in the most impactful way. 4. Measure outputs and impacts of all media communication, providing statistical information to the Head of Marketing and Communications in the form of analytical reports and linking the outcomes and ROI to campaigns with media activity.
