Part-time Horse Care Team Member

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly committed person with experience in caring for horses and ponies to join the Sanctuary Care Team at Honeysuckle Farm in Newton Abbot.

The successful candidate will be working 3 days (22.5 hours) per week (Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays) on a fixed-term contract for six months.

The salary for this position is £24,831 per annum pro rata

This is a physically demanding role where you will be working closely with our team of experts to help provide the highest standard of care, monitor the health and behaviour of rescued horses and ponies and assist in delivering their tailored training and rehabilitation plans. You will also be assisting with updating of horse records on our in-house IT system.

Knowledge of equine behaviour and training is advantageous but not essential as full training will be given in this area.

  • Have experience in caring for horses
  • Are able to carry out all standard yard duties such as stable and grassland management, grooming, feeding, exercising
  • Would like an interesting and rewarding role in equine welfare
  • Are happy to work outside in all weathers
  • Are confident in using IT
  • Are passionate about providing the highest standard of care for our horses
  • Would like to work in a professional, friendly and supportive team
  • Hold a full UK driving license

Riding experience is not necessary for this role.

The Mare and Foal Sanctuary is the largest equine charity in the South West peninsula, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of horses and ponies in need. Based in Devon, we have 4 specialist sites, including a specialist veterinary and welfare assessment centre. We also have an active programme of educational events for horse owners and a multidisciplinary equine assisted learning team.
